Centering Journal!

I wonder if anyone has any experience or advice. A few months ago I noticed thet there was a persistent rattle coming from the front-top of the windscreen on the drivers side. Further investigation revealed that the 'prong' type thing which locates the leading edge of the soft top into a housing on the top of the windscreen surround was missing a small plastic cap. Thus, the metal prong and housing were in contact and causing the annoyance.
I contacted the nearest OPC and after much animated describing, ordered a 'centering journal' for £19.99. The plastic cap not being available on its own, I had to purchase the whole casting. However, when I picked up the item, I noticed a marked difference. Instead of being a semi sheen black to match the rest of the interior and the one on the other side, it was a matt finish and the cap was a smooth plastic affair. The original cap on the other side is a shaped plastic cap with three, sort of fins or ribs in the underside which give a tight sort of 'wedged in' fit within the housing. When I pointed out the difference, the parts man shrugged his shoulders, commenting that it was the only one listed and offered to order a matching one for the other side. I declined the offer and decided to try elsware. After carrying out some research, it appeared that the smooth cap was from an earlier model. All the 02 cars appeared to have the ridges on them.
I decided to go to the top and order one from Reading, pointing out the problems already experienced and was assured that 'one with ridges' had been stipulated. On receiving the item however, it's the smooth type.
Anyone else had to purchase one.

Paul.

had the same sort of problem with the hard top, but gave up in the end and used black insulation tape, this may not work on the hood as its opened/used more often than the hard top (it appeared to go missing when it went in for a service!)

Porsche has changed that part over the years. You use to be able to buy just the cap but no longer.

The current part number is 986 561 605 01 A09 for centering journal with cap.

Thanks for the help. Is that part common for all 986 Boxsters because the one on my car with the ridges appears to be a more modern type to the ones supplied.
