Central Bearing Failure......

Hoping that someone can help....

A mate of mine is looking at a 51 plate Boxster 2.7 which after a central bearing failure, had it's engine replaced under warranty at 8,000 miles. It has now covered 32,000.

What is this and is it a cause for concern ?

Thanks

Nick

Difficult to tell what the original problem was.
But the new engine seems OK - and it's 8K younger than the rest of the car [:)]

There are two issues with the Boxster engines.

One is RMS, or the crankshaft seal

The other is intermediate shaft failure which lunches the internals.

Given that PCGB don't replace engines purely for RMS i would assume its had the shaft failure

I'm not aware of any engine failures from RMS...

RMS is usually a small oil leak. Unless the leak gets really bad, AND you ignore all the warning lights telling you that you have low oil pressure, I can't see how it would be related.

So this isn't related to the RMS recall at all

There has been no RMS recall as this would imply an admission of a fault which off course, Porsche has not done....
