central locking 993

Gentlemen and ladies,
I have a problem with my central locking, I changed the battery January, immediately the central locking failed. Can still lock each door manually.Have had all elements checked by an independent specialist, have replaced original central locking control unit twice!!.still no C;Locking, just the alarm going off! Car never had a remote fob. All key operated. can't believe 3 units would be faulty, must be something else. any ideas anyone?

If the alarm is going off I'm tempted to speculate (and it's nothing more because who am I to know if an indie has spent enough time on it to replace 2 central locking units) that the connection from the switch in the doorlock to the alarm has been damaged - perhaps caused by a short of something during the battery swap. That signal to the alarm is probably what is sent on to the ECU and the CL control unit to say "open all locks".

Does the switch on the central console lock/unlock the doors?

Could possibly (if you are lucky) be that the alarm unit need resetting (have you tried disconnecting battery for a few hours - long enough for any back up battery in the alarm to die)

Hi,Indie said they had tried door switch and was ok,but?? Can't try switch on centre console, the battery is disconnected all the time, 'cos the alarm just keeps going off. I can only get in if I "cheat" the door lock by opening very quickly before the alarm/locks shut the door again. Suppose I could get in and just cover my ears for the 5 minutes it takes to stop! Will try the door switch tho'.( Drivers side?)

James,
If you have the small key for the alarm you can switch off the noise. I got a small key with my car and it's only this forum that caused me to realise its purpose. Fits in the back of the sieren, turn to mute!

>>they had tried door switch <<

Door switch or lock switch? I don' t mean the switch on the A-post. There's also a switch on the lock mechanism that detects turn of the key - did they remove the door cards to look inside?

Sorry this is not being much help - hopefully someone will come along whose's had same problem!

Don't have a small key sadly. Both door cards removed, the passenger one was a wreck, I made up a new one covered and fitted. Drivers one has been removed,,,the bin and handle need to be re-fitted properly !! Will remove asap and check by the lock mechanism. Fingers crossed.!

further question, what if there are no micro switches on either lock barrel? honest cannot find any. the only thing connected to anything electrical is the push rod to the solenoid and on to the control unit. I am totally flumoxed. Ideas please anyone? remember no Hamilton Palmer units, no key fob, it all worked on the turn of the key.
