Central Locking Conundrum

For a car with 2 doors the central locking system seems mighty complicated!

Easy question first, where does the c/l relay live?

Now for the challenging bit! I have the factory alarm option. The remote opens and closes the doors perfectly. If I use the key in the drivers door it only opens the drivers door. If I use the key in the passenger door it opens both doors! From inside the car if I push either button up or down nothing happens on the other side. If I push the console button it locks both doors and lights up red. If I push it again it makes the right noise but the buttons don't lift and red light stays on. If I put the spare key in the divers door and alter the lock position the console button can sometimes work correctly, but no apparent logic to it.

I have also noticed an unconnected multi plug in my drivers door. 4 wires in a straight line, plug has 2 lugs, left of pin 1 and right of pin 4 (I think 2 brown wires, 1 red, 1 white from memory). At present it is lying on the bottom of the door under the door lock.

Please help, very confused!

From comments by others I would suggest that you don't try to use the drivers door 'buttons' to lock or unlock the door.
They're visual indicators only and will break loose if you you try to use them in any other way.
I'm not sure about the other problems as otherwise mine works as I would expect it to.

Well if your locks are all working on the remote plip, then the commonly broken links must all still be in place.

Each door barrel has a sensor which recognises it as being (manually) turned, which then fires the other door. Sounds like your drivers side sensor may be kerknackered?

Steve's comments on door pins are correct - stoppit! [:D] That's what the central switch is for ~ I can't explain why this doesn't always unlock [&:] (unless the noise you hear is it trying to lock again???)

Not sure either suits your description perfectly, but possibly useful links :-

Thanks for the advice guys. Got to the bottom of it finally. The little box that controls the LED door lock button was in the wrong place and was fouling the mechanism. Someone in their infinite wisdom had mounted it next to the solenoid and push rod thing, anyway it's now back in it's rightful place and all is well!

Thanks

Stuart
