central locking frustration

the locking of my car using the remote is inconsistent. it often works but at times it does not. it is worse when i return to the car shortly after locking it and it will not open.

when using the 'boot' button this is more reliable.

have i got a problem? am i just not using it correctly?

two nights ago it obviously failed to lock as i found out when i got up to find someone had kindly removed all the contents from it!!!

I had a similar problem, found it was the center cubby box lid not closing correctly. make sure its locked down.

I think if there was a problem like the center box not closed properly then it would sound the horn when locking.

i do sometimes get a horn beep when i lock the car. i assumed it was the alarm although could not figure out why it only happened sometimes.

i find that if i use the 'boot' opening button on the remote then the car opens but rarely now using the other button. the red light comes on so i dont think it is a battery problem.

i will check the centre console compartment but i am positive it is always shut.

cheers,

carl.

If it beeps then it means something is not alarmed (or is ajar).

The center storage is the usual suspect as Kish says.

A quick double press on the remote will disable the interior sensors - which I find I have to do on a ferry to stop the alarm going off. Just make sure if you do this that the passenger has closed their door - as the "beep" telling you that the sensors are disabled will make you think that the rest of the car is ok...

So... Any beep whn locking means something is open.
Glovebox
Door
Either boot lid
Interior sensors disabled

It should NOT beep when you lock it (I have seen many people think it should beep to say it's locked - quite the opposite!)

my frustration continues. i can open the car when using the 'boot' remote button but not the door one. the light flashes but nothing happens.

a couple of weeks ago i had some items stolen from my car overnight whilst parked on the drive. there was no sign of forced entry so i assumed that i must have left it open in error. i now find that on the same estate several cars have had this occurence where owners have just assumed also that they have left the car unlocked. it appears to me that someone knows a way of getting in. (different manufacturers) this coincides with the remote central locking issue. i have not looked inside the key yet but are the two buttons totally seperate? i.e run off different batteries or sensors?

any one any ideas what the problem may be??

thanks,

carl.
