Central Locking inoperative from drivers side

Any ideas folks?

Car has no updated alarm / imobiliser so it's factory std kit and therefore C/L is activated via the key.

Using Drivers side ~ has started just locking / unlocking that door only. Alarm arms and cancels correctly with it though.

Using Passengers side ~ lock still activates central locking correctly (ie both doors lock or unlock).

I replaced the drivers side lock barrel approx 3 months ago, but it's been fine for that period. Popped the handle off for a quick lookie (thinking I'd maybe snagged a wire and it was now shorting or something), but nothing looks amiss. [>:]

I'm guessing it's probably the c/L microswitch at the drivers side (?) If it wasn't working, would that lock still fire when I use the key in the passengers door? [&:]

Mik, can you hear the motor turning on the passenger side?

I am going to guess that the plastic rod from the passenger motor to the lock has broken. Both of my cars have done this, the part number is 944.537.511.00 and costs about a pound.

When you use the passenger lock the key is physically unlocking the door and the motor on the drivers side does that one.

Interesting - thanks Paul ! [:)]

Just popped out but I can't decide whether I can hear it or not. Need someone else to assist methinks.

If I pop the passengers side handle off I assume I should find this fairly quicky? (assuming this is the rod that pops onto the ball ~ see pic just above point (i) on this guide HERE ???

No, you need to remove the door card from inside.
It is in the top corner just underneath the flashing led knob, this pic should show the white rod that snaps:

Mo turned the drivers door lock with me crouched beside the passenger door ~ I'd say your diagnosis is spot on Paul [8D]

In retrospect you can now feel that the passengers side lock is being pushed with the key as opposed to being fired up by the solenoid.

Very much obliged as I was planning to start pulling the drivers door apart to hunt this one down. [:)]

Now ......why can't I find a door card removal guide using search? [&:]

'cos it's so easy anyone can figure it out [8D]

Seriously, there are some screws aound the bottom of the door pocket/speaker housing (about 7). You also need to remove the little block at the front that the door pocket attaches to. There are 3 or 4 screws that hold the speaker frame on, some top and some bottom. Next you can remove the 3 bigger screws holding the armrest on - they go through the bottom at an angle. The bit with the window switch in has 2 screws up through the bottom and then it pops out. Last you need to pop out the snap fasteners all the way round the bottom and remove the 2 screws through the top part of the panel (with the coloured plastic caps on). The top of the armrest handle is hooked through the door so it lifts off in the same motion that clears the lock pin. I think that's it.

[:)] as usual fen [8D]

Dowloaded Rick's vids of your car for "a wee swatch" last night. Looks the part, but now we need some decent cornering footage. [:D]

If I get a dry track I can do cornering. Coming out of a wet corner, especially the one that was singled out in the drivers' briefing as "the only thing you can hit there is the wall" and on trackday tyres is something I'm going to have to work on when I have got to know the car a bit better I think. I'd hate to have bent in 5 hours after getting it to the point I could really use it [;)]

Paul ~ 107.2% correct regarding the offending item. Unfortunately however you were 61% out in your cost estimate, the OPC having fleeced me for a whopping £1.61. [] [;)]

The item is now replaced, and I can safely say it would have taken me 3x as long to root cause it without your guidance. Much appreciated.[8D]

Fen ~ you were correct. Now that I've done it once (using your guide) I reckon it's obvious too. [;)] . I even popped the drivers side off in search of an annoying rattle that's been there throughout our tenure.
