Central locking issue on my 2010 970

Hi all,
Having bought my 2010 Pan4 in the summer, I am delighted with it so far but the odd gremlin is kicking in. A week ago, my front passenger door stopped opening on the key (locks okay though) and then this week my front offside door (driver’s door) has also stopped opening on the key. Fortunately, the car setting for the opening of doors is set to ‘open all doors’ so I was able to enter the car on the rear door and lean forward to open the door from the inside.


When the passenger issue started, I checked the PCGB forum, and other websites, to see if this was a common issue but, although I found a great article on iCarsoft fault code reader, I have been unable to find any solutions. Interestingly, in the December 2021 copy of Porsche Post, under the Panamera section, David Skelcher’s story also mentions central locking issues with his rear doors.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

In the meantime, rather than start to strip things without a known cause, I’ve booked my car into the garage where I bought the car to get them to investigate.

PS - I took out a Silver level warranty with Warranty Wise when I bought the car but they confirm that it doesn’t cover door mechanisms (!)

Perhaps a long shot, but is the battery in good shape? Panny’s are very sensitive to weak batteries and that can manifest itself in a number of strange ways.

Good call, thanks Amardeep.

I‘ll check tomorrow when I wash it. It could very well be the original as there was no paperwork supporting a replacement battery in the history file. It always starts on the first turn and constantly shows 14.7v, or close enough, whenever I use it but that doesn’t mean it is not in need of replacement. I’ll ask the garage to test it on Friday when I’m there.

Batteries should have a shelf life of around 5 years, but can last longer. All I know from my experience is a dying battery, especially when cold, can have some peculiar side effects on Panny’s electronics.

Hi Amardeep,

Just back from having my battery tested, which turned out to be a healthy battery so I’ll need to see what my local garage makes of the problem with their code reader when I visit on Friday. Static and charging voltages both good (see attached) and the cold cranking amps came in at 764a (on a 850a rating).

Pleased to hear it Iain. Keep an eye on the battery as anything below 80% efficiency (680 CCA) means you should replace it. That’s what my car electrician man said when I was having a few gremlins. Also my battery is a 950 CCA, but is a 2015 diesel so may be the reason it’s a higher rated unit.


If the codes show nothing then try and keep track of what you were doing with the car the day before, or not doing. Something will be causing your problem and it’s a matter of tracing it back.

Hi Amardeep,


In part - the passenger door (front) is still not opening on the remote key but the driver’s door is opening now but on a strange sequence. I need to open the car on a single click of the ‘open’ button then double click the ‘lock’ button and then single click the ‘open’ button and it works.


Going to the garage tomorrow to get it tested. Hopefully news is better next time I update.

Not yet. The garage weren’t able to look at it when they said they could so it is booked for Friday this week. I am still able to open the driver’s door using the button sequence described above so it is not a major issue at this stage.

Hi Amardeep,
Not yet sorted. I got caught up in moving from R9 to R7 (arrived here on Friday) and I will need to find a local specialist to check it on their code reader. The drivers door was working but has stopped doing so now although it locks ok - as does the passenger door.

I’ll report as soon as I get a chance to get it checked - just too many things on the go at the moment.
