Hi been having trouble with the central locking,i can lock the car but i only have to press the handle trigger and it unlocks so not much use as a lock any idea's ?it's an 85 targa

The relay that controls the central locking is under the scuttle at the rear of the o/s/f wing,it is a dual relay unit and is the same as fitted to the Passat and when it gets old it causes a lot of problems

Hi Andy,

Was Paul's reply useful?

Have you been able to progress with any success?

Steve

Just had a better look, doors lock on center button and unlock, car locks from passenger side and stays locked but not if you press drivers trigger, but if i use the locking dial to lock driver's door it stays locked when trigger pressed,i can't get my hands into the relays without stripping out, does it still sound like relays?

Just a thought about confirming the fault: If you lock the door (by a method that would fail when you use the driver door trigger) is it possible to continue to turn the drivers door locking dial in the locking direction, to prove if the key or centre button isn't finalising the electrical locking action?

Steve

Could well be the micro switch on the handle if it unlocks when you touch the trigger

Sounds like you are going to have to remove the door cards to see the operation of the the switches and the solenoids, quite an easy job 20mins a side. You can also grease the window slides

cheers fella's actually got time to have a look, stripped the door and found the micro switch in a bad

way, ordered a new one and painted the handle while it was off the car,put everything back together and it locked first time ,result, nice!

Hi Andy, Good to hear what the fault was and that it's now fixed. Will be useful to remember for the future.
