Central locking problem

Hi guys

An intermitent problem has just turned into a permanent one! We can't lock the car!
Try to lock the car from either door and the central locking just flicks "back out" after moving the key to lock - ie you hear the solenoids(?) twice instead of once. Laura says this has been happening on the consol locking button for some time - doors only in last 48 hrs - first on the drivers door but ok on passengers, now everything.

Due to the highly sensative nature of this problem, please don't tell anyone!!!!!!!

Is there a DIY solution or is it strictly for the professionals. Thanks in anticipation.

most likely the central locking unit has failed.... should be easy and not so expensive to replace, prob' hidden somewhere in the door panel... (white unit)

Hi Sundeep, is this white box one for the entire system or one per door? If just one for the whole lot, I presume its in the drivers door???? Thanks

would only be unit...... should be easily to spot i.e. follow the wiring trail from the door

as to where it would be hidden..... but may not be white.. but it will be a seperate piece..

I've never actually taken my door apart but this is based on the various units i've seen from VW's / Audi's etc which are all very similiar...

FYI - a 964 Central Locking Micro Switch

I could wrong here but isn't the control box for the central locking under the passenger/driver seat, if it is , it might be better check the box before you start pulling the door apart

You're right Peter, he will know. Maurice - where are you please!?![8|]!?!

Thanks everyone. When we get to the bottom of this, we'll do a post to share the info.
(Thinks.....) "Wouldn't it be wonderful to give some info to Maurice for a change!"

Cheers

Funny how one thing leads to another..... Checked all door, bonnet and boot (or is that boot and bonnet?!) contacts and everything working fine. Changed headlight lenses (see cleaning headlight thread). Sitting in car admiring fact that headlights still worked and flicked centre consol central locking switch - and it worked - for the first time ever - since owning the car!! Tried to lock from outside - nothing!! Now contemplating locking car from inside and making dignified exit through sunroof!! Just thought I would start the car - and flat battery! Put on battery charger and within minutes can lock car from outside - yippeee - but internal switch not working again!!!!! Car not used much at the moment but did do a 25 mile trip last weekend - battery new at last service.

HELP.
