central locking

I assume all cars will be equipped with central locking (working or not) but was this by key or remote control as standrad for all or from any specific model/date?
 
As far as I know any that had it (I'm not sure about early cars) had key operated locking. My S2 certainly did before I changed it to remote.
 
I can only tell you that my 87 944 Turbo has an original Porsche plug in type immobiliser that operates the central locking as well ( using a remote button) . I know no more [:)] Regards Mas
