Central Locking

I have a 2003 model Boxter S. Suddenly the central locking will not work using the key button. The boot and bonnet opening still work from the key but not door locks. Odments key lock is not working. When locking door manually with key there is one beep from the horn. Does anybody know what the problem is?

There are tiny micro buttons solderd to a small board in the remote. They tend to fall off. Split your remote in half to check. Also try your spare remote.

As posted above the tactile switches in the remote fob do break, you can test this function by taking the remote apart and just bridging the two contacts of the lock/unlock button in the fob to see if it operates or not. You can get a set of tactile switches off ebay for a few quid - they are surface mounted so can be a bit fiddly to unsolder/solder, you will need a very fine bit on your soldering iron. The centre console lock (i think this is what you mean) is key operated and if the lock is inserted into its housing properly (a few aren't when they have been fiddled with) it should easily turn to lock the console when closed. The beeping indicates that something is not registering properly with the alarm when it is armed. This could be caused if the centre console isn't closed, or someone has fitted an after market radio and not removed the earth tag that grounds the OE radio, or a number of other reasons, its usually fairly simple to find, even easier if you have the diagnostic equipment

Anthony, Regarding Ian's comment about the alarm "beep", this sometimes happens when a door/bonnet/boot/centre console micro-switch fails, so it's worth checking them out. Other than that you're down to checking out the alarm control module, which really means that you'd be best running a diagnostic check before proceeding further. Jeff
