Centre Console Painting

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience, or know of anyone that has had (the rear section) of their centre console painted to match the exterior colour of the car?

I'm thinking of doing this on a potential car purchase to break up a terracotta interior and wondered how easy it was to do...

Any feedback is much appreciated

You can buy them pre done in the colour, but ff you do have the spare the time without the car then its easy enough to do... or have done by a paint shop. garyw

Hi Gary, That's good news, I'd imagine it would take about an hour to dismantle to get it out.. Do you know of any recommended body shops that have done this before? Who sells those pre-done ones? Thanks for your help [:)]

Below is a link to a pdf file for a short shift, it shows how to remove the console yourself. [link=http://www.bmracing.com/bmracing/installation_instruction/67.pdf]http://www.bmracing.com/bmracing/installation_instruction/67.pdf[/link] Bumperplugs.com do the pre- painted ones or send your own to them, not cheap and they are in the US.. I'd suggest you perhaps speak to an Indy or the likes of Porscheshop who may actaully do the complete job for you. garyw

I had my centre console painted by a local body shop for about £100 and they did a really good job.I have since replaced it with the leather covered console which gives a much more expensive look to the interior.

I spec'd this from new and looks great. A couple of mates of mine had it retro done by an indie bodyshop on their 996 Mk1 GT3 and 996 C2 Cab. Both good jobs and fairly cheap. Any reputable bodyshop / accident repair centre, wouldn't need to be a Porsche Specialist.

Thanks for your suggestions guys I was supposed to see the car today at OPC Leicester which was a C2S Cab in Basalt Black and Terracotta interior but had a last minute change of heart and decided against it. No matter what I do with the console, the full terracotta interior is just too much, even if they were prepared to do a deal! Other dealers I've spoken to, incuding OPC's said that I would regret it! The search for the cab continues.......

That would be the right decision for me....going from the sublime to the ridiculous my '92 944S2 is from a previous era of colour coded interiors ("hey! we could do the gear lever and steering wheel blue as well!!") and its relentless blueness still offends after over 3 years. Sorted the steering wheel with a Momo in black, but the gear lever/armrest awaits the attentions of my local trimmer. Meanwhile, the interior still reminds me of a 1980's Sierra!! Good job I love the car.
