Centre Gravity Visit 9th March

Just to let you all know that I'm trying to arrange a visit for the Cayman Register to Centre Gravity who are a well known alignment business within the Porsche fraternity.

Following their response, I have said that I would like to make the visit during the weekend of 9/10th March largely in hope of some early spring weather, they can cope with up to 20 visitors so please let me know those of you who wish to attend. It will take place on only one of the dates stated and so if you can say which day is possible I will try to please the majority and arrange for the final date. They are situated between Tamworth and Hinckley not far from the M1 and M42 and we would expect to meet up at their premises.

They will need one or two volunteers to offer up their cars for pre-adjustment measurements to be taken but no set up adjustments can be carried out on the day as it does take around 4 to 5 hours.

Also, they would like to know just what register members are interested in concerning alignment, adjustment and the set up process in order that Chris can shape his talk around your interests and questions. For newcomers let me point out that alignment on a Porsche is not simply adjustment to the steering toe in but includes Four Wheel Camber, Toe In and Castor on the front axle plus of course adjustment of the corner weights assessment of joint wear, suspension and far more than I wish to go into here largely because I don't know it all, so I'm looking forward to the trip already.

Once I have some feed back from you I'll speak to Chris the owner and see just how he can put it together for us to have an interesting visit.

ORIGINAL: Buddy ............... I would like to make the visit during the weekend of 8/9th March
Buddy Those dates are Friday/Saturday, I take it you didn't mean to offer Saturday/Sunday 9th or 10th? D

Whoops! Thanks for pointing that out Dave I meant 9th/10th. Confirmation received that one of those days is ok with CG and it's penciled into their diary, we no need to get the names etc sorted out. Line up, line up![:D][:D]

Ok Alun and Simon both on the list Plus myself of course, I think it will be a good thing to offer them one Gen1 and a Gen2 for measurements but whether they will check both is, at this point unknown. And so far that means we have my Gen1 S, Alun's Cayman R and Simon's Gen2 S which means we have three different set ups. Should be interesting.

Kevan, Although I went to CG earlier this year as an interloper with the 997 Register crowd, I'd like to try to get along to this with you all as it will be more 986/987 focused. Unfortunately, it would have to be the Saturday as currently I'm booked in to visit Prodrive with R21 on the Sunday (TBC). It's likely that I'll have visited Chris beforehand to sort out a possible rear suspension misalignment, so best to let someone else have the opportunity for a check-up. Hope you get a good response - you could always open it up to the Boxster Register if you need additional attendees, although Chris' workshop is very small. Jeff

I sent them an email on the 1st to set the Saturday as the date but so far have had no reply, understandable as they may have closed for a full fortnight over Christmas/New Year. so far 5 are listed but I can expect that several of those will have passengers and I'm told there will be space for around 20 people inside and to be able to see what is going on. Not that it should prevent more attending as we can move about and exchange places to some extent. If we are short nearing the time then I will extend to other groups such as Boxster ( rather like a Cayman with a tent instead of a roof ) or local regions.

This morning I received a confirmation from CG that we are booked in for the 9th as they are now finalising their calendar for March, I'm saying we'll be aiming for a total of 20 people so if you can let me know lead name and how many for each car that will be great. If by mid Feb it looks under subscribed I will be offering the opportunity to the Boxster and Midlands Regions. So far we have myself Alun ( 2 ) Simon Jeff Mike

Did my post get removed here, I can't see it any longer? Unless I didn't submit by accident I registered my interest for going (although I'm a 997 interloper) so maybe I'm not invited! Simon

ORIGINAL: Buddy It's ok Simon, we can tuck you away if anyone takes offence!
LOL - I'll behave myself honest! I've had the pleasure of experiencing Chris' work in the past. Amazing difference it makes. Simon

Well folks I'm still waiting for more response for the Center gravity visit which is scheduled to take place on 9th March, if you're curious about what Center Gravity is then do a search on the net and it's there. They are a well known and popular alignment specialist based close to the A5 at :- Center Gravity Limited Academy workshop, Unit 2, Plot 14 Brindley Close, Holly Lane Industrial Estate Warwickshire, CV9 2GA 01827 718800

So far there are about seven listed to come on this visit and so since there is a regional meeting of R8 tonight I will offer places to the region. This does not mean that we cannot have excess visitors only that if there are too many to all get into the workshop we will have to rotate the attendees to all have opportunity to see what is taking place and to ask questions.

Last night at the regional meeting I had one other member of the register ask about joining the trip and one of the region members and so we are slowly getting towards the ideal size of group, still plenty of room though[:D] And so we now have 9 attendees and room for more, since I am in Coventry tomorrow I'll be visiting CG to discuss the visit, I'll also be seeing a 993 being worked on.

Hi Kevan, please put us down for this as we will have moved to Derbyshire just before then. Do you have any idea of start/finish timing please? Cheers

Today I was to be in Coventry and arranged to call in for a chat with Chris and Jayne while in the area. I have set the start time as 10am, sufficient for most to get there without difficulty and there is a cafe very close to the workshop if you fancy a cooked breakfast beforehand. It will effectively be a tutorial on suspension, tyres and related items in fact Chris has requested that we have a poll of whatever modifications people have envisaged having to their suspension set ups and so if all of you are interested in an expert view on what mods you are considering he will give his opinion of the benefit or if of no benefit they may be. So if you will please add your lists to the thread. There is no charge for the visit, tea and coffee some snacks etc are provided, a donation on the day which will be passed to a charity will be appreciated.

My plans for 9th March have changed and I am now able to join you guys. Should be interesting as an engineer I am not! D
