Centre lock wheels

Hi folks,

For those who own cars with centre locks, do you personally change your Tyres when you need to?

I am so confused as to what I need to keep with me in the car in case of a tyre problem an no easy recovery?
what are my options to to be able to drive the car to a safe place in case of a puncture?

I suggest you have two options:

1. Use the car tyre inflator fluid that comes with the car.
or
2. Wait for recovery.

It may yet be repairable if the puncture is away from the sidewall.

Under no circumstances would I drive a drive the car with a deflated tyre as you will write off the wheel and that will cost you around £3,000 plus a new tyre!
 
I carry a 3/4 drive breaker bar, a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter and a plug type repair kit.

I also have a rechargeable compressor. This is really useful for checking etc.

Touch wood, haven’t needed any of the puncture stuff.

Of course the outcome of an issue will depend entirely on tyre availability if the problem can’t be repaired. I carry those bits and pieces in case the right tools aren’t available.

Have you seen the get you home setting for re-tourquing the wheel in the absence of a 600nm torque wrench. ?
 
Amazon sell a repair kit which will successfully deal with a small puncture. I
always carry one together with an inflator. Otherwise it’s an OPC recovery since I wouldn’t trust tyre fitters with
centre locks even if they had a suitable
T wrench.

Thanks. I don’t know what a “get you home” setting is/where to find it.
 
The "get you home setting" is I believe a reference to the method of tightening the centre lock wheel without a high value torque wrench. The instructions are in the owners manual and in summary involves tightening to a lower defined torque figure and then tightening by a further amount marked on the nut/wheel. It is not very accurate but enough for emergency use. I carry a torque multiplier which is compact and easily carried in the car for use with a normal torque wrench.
 
This is what I carry although you probably only need the multiplier and the paste as the majority of Tire places will have the rest. The ‘ get you home ‘ setting is effectively 100Nm rather than the full blown 600Nm. The key to centre locks is ensuring the inner ring spline pops pot and locks the wheel on- this starts at the 100Nm point onwards.

The plug kit I have in every car now and has been invaluable. It is extremely compact - about the size of a regular pencil case - And most importantly it works !
Yes you can use the expanding foam kits etc - but they make a royal mess so my preferred first choice is a proper repair - which this kit enables you to swiftly do- mushroom plugs etc.

The other kit I put together as I was the same as you and did a fair amount of reading and chatting to other owners with Centre locks before making a decision on whats ideal.

On longer journeys especially if going abroad there is everything you could need in it.

Best bit is it has minimum impact on frunk space. I have velcro’d it in place so its locked down nicely.

Yes you can call Porsche Assist etc but sometimes its just not required.

1/2 Drive 600mm Breaker bar
1/2 Drive 300NM Torque Wrench
1/2 Drive - 3/4 Drive Sealy AK629 Torque Multiplier
Nylon Centre Lock wheel guide
High Temp Paste
Small piece of wood for use with Multiplyer
Gloves
Tool Roll bag and velcro to hold it all

Thank you so much - I guess I will use the Porsche call-ou facility for Now. Saw a tool online (like a drill) which costs usd 5,000 - that’s a bit too dear…. besides, pointless as there’s no spare tyre in the car.
