Centre of Gravity equivalent near GU10

I'd like to submit my 997.2 in for a steering geometry check and road set up / alignment work. CofG seems to have a very solid reputation but Warwickshire is probably too far to travel. Are there any reputable Porsche specialist equivalent type of outfits in the Guildford area?

Many of us travel up from Devon and Cornwall and down from Scotland to get our alignment done by Chris. So Guildford hardly seems like the back of beyond! [:)]

The thing with Chris is he spends a great deal of time setting alignment up to suit your own individual driving style. Once you have the settings, anyone with decent alignment equipment near you can replicate them.

Regards,

Clive.

How far is too far?? I was there yesterday with my Turbo, along with a Turbo S from Scotland that will be collected later in the week and a Boxster with its owner from Fife. Chris is so good it is worth the trip!

Got to agree with the previous comments - I travelled from Guildford area last spring to CoG and Chris did a great job. Results show every time I drive so well worth a 3/4 day

What about the cost:benefit, can anyone put into words why you feel that it was money well spent?

For me - firstly having monitored the tyre wear it is much more even across the tyre width on all tyres - arguably any good geo set up would achieve this but with the price of tyres this has a value.
On driving feel - I went for more of a sprint set up although did not want to loose the GT cruising/stability aspect and Chris has managed to improve the high speed stability whilst reducing some of the inherent under steer and also improved the speed and balance of turn in.
All this within the factory envelope of settings
Regards

As a % of the overall car cost and improvement...

O.5% cost : 50% benefit

A trip to CG is much more than just a geo: Chris tests all parts of the suspension on the test drive, explains everything to you in detail, offers advice and hints as how best to get what you want from the car, gives you exactly what you're after and proves it to you on further test drives, and lets you know if there's any big bills coming up in the future. He's also a bloody nice chap to boot.

Dan say's it all. Chrs at CG has found a niche in the market and I very very good. t a full suspension check including parts as everyone says and a real education on how your car works f your interested

Its worth the trip.

Thanks. Has anyone else used Wheels in Motion / Black Boots? I did have a quick chat with the guy there but he hadn't heard of Centre of Gravity and therefore couldn't comment on the differences in service provided. They said the routinely set up 911's (including 997.2's) for various specific tracks and fast road use so I'm guessing there can't be that much difference in the work carried out and it will be much much closer to home plus cheaper to boot. Tempting.

I'm sure you have seen the glowing reports of the service provided by Center Gravity and I have recommended them and continue to do so. I haven't been anywhere else so if you try the people near you please give us a report on their service and the outcome.

You've asked for and have received our best advice, but it is, of course, entirely up to you whether or not you decide to accept it. [8|]

Clive

OK - I admit - CofG was well worth the trip. From now on mandatory for any Porsche I buy. In fact OPC's should include a voucher in the sale of any of their cars so the car can be set up for individual driving preference.

Was surprised by the stats Chris at CoG had to hand. Average customer journey to him >100 miles. Proportion of people spending time on the shop floor discussing car whilst work being carried out >50%. Proportion of brand new cars that require adjustment > 50%.

I'm glad you enjoyed the experience [:)]
Having the tools and knowing how to use them is a major part of CG but they just seem to want to get it right for you and your driving.

I'm certainly not knocking other Geo people but above and beyond really does ring true with CG...

I'm pleased that you followed our advice and went to Chris. I, for one, had no doubt that you would be pleased and impressed with the service Chris offers and the results he achieves. Much as I like your suggestion, I think OPCs would feel miffed sending business elsewhere [:D]

I don't think OPC's can carry out the work the way Chris does and certainly not at the price (health and safety notwithstanding). Given his educational background he's quite familiar with maths and physics of it all. Impressed. Much better than a well drilled OPC technician.

Incidentally, Chris is noodling on relocating somewhere further south. During my time there we also discussed how to make his business sustainable and scalable without losing the intimacy of the service he provides. I threw a few commercial suggestions into the hat. You may like to do so too, it's probably the most powerful input he'll get. IMO this is a business that deserves to stick around and grow. I noticed son-in-law and 6 week old grandson in that day.

Gosh, from a reluctance to travel up there to providing a free new business model - that's quite a journey in itself. [8|]

Regards,

Clive.

A good business model would be to move closer to me and I'd be going even MORE often than the 10+ times I have been in recent years....
