Ceramic Coating a good idea?

Decided to beat the COVID blues (and BREXIT remember that!) with a new Macan, delivery is due in August/September and Porsche Edinburgh are pushing the idea of ceramic coating with G-Techniq. I have no past experience and on looking around can see there are a number of different products/technicians available. So wondering if there are any views out there as to if its worthwhile and assuming it is, any recommendations on which to use.

PS New car means my 18,000 miles 2013, 981 Boxster will be available shortly if anyone is interested. (Full details to follow)

Ask your OPC who will do the work and speak to them first. G-Tecniq is a great product but only if the car is prepped properly. My last few cars have been to the same Approved detailer and the work takes at least three or four days to do. Two days of machine polishing and the rest treating the interior, glass, wheels as well as the coatings.

Upsides downsides of ceramics do a search stuff on YouTube about it.
Ceramics are ok if you don't want to wax your car a couple times a year and it still has to be washed properly .
Will be expensive come time to strip and 're do for age reasons or damage.
Personally good idea to ceramic coats wheels but prep properly for best results fairly time consuming per wheels.
As said upsides and downside. [:D]

It depends why you want it. It's essentially a hard wearing sealant, so no need to wax your car. What it won't do is protect your paint from the any damage inflicted by day to day wear and tear (bird juice) and also washing. It may reduce it, because it's hard wearing, but it won't eliminate it. The biggest benefit is that your paintwork will be perfect when it's applied. Even though your car will be brand new, it'll need to be machine polished and it'll look stunning. To keep it that way, it's up to the amount of effort you want to put it. Every time you wash it, you need to pre-wash it with snow foam, wash using the 2 bucket method etc...etc.... Without all that, you'll still get swirl marks etc.

Personally, I wouldn't trust OPC to apply it. I took my immaculate Cayman there for a service and told them (they wrote it down) not to wash it. They washed it using a mechanical carwash and introduced lots of swirls on the paint. To be fair, they held their hands up and agreed for my car to be machine polished and a new ceramic coating applied with the same detailer that applied it in the first place.

Cheers,
Bryan

Also check prices with accredited detailers. OPC quoted me £800ish! Authorised detailer £400ish (may have been plus VAT)
Similar discrepancy of price for application of paint protection film.
