Chain tensioners or not

Going to look at an 89 2.7 tomorrow but am a little confused. The 2,5 do not seem to have these nasty chain tensioner things but did the 2.7?
Is there anything perculiar to the 2.7 I should look at?

Cheers

David,
The 2.7L is the same as the 2.5L its just got a different Bore/Stroke to get the extra 200cc.

So potentially more straightforward to maintain, and presumably cheaper?
What sort of performance/bhp should I expect.
Thanks
David

Purchase could be marginally more as the 2.7L was only made in 1989 the end of production & maintenance cost will be the same as a 2.5L as the consumables are the same.
Performance the factory quote 163bhp & 205Nm for the 2.5L & 165bhp & 225Nm for the 2.7L. So not much in the bhp but the 2.7 will feel quicker due to the extra torque.

Hi David,

The 2.5 Lux and 2.7 only have a Single Overhead Cam, the S, S2 and 968 all have Dual Overhead Cams with the dreaded chain and tensioner.

Whichever model you go for make sure the belts are changed at least every 45k miles/3 years. Lots of information on belts, chains and tensioners if you do a search in this forum as its been discussed at length.

Cheers

Dave k.
