I'm thinking of changing my 2 yr old 3.2 V6 for a Bxstr. What shld I look out for and what are the downsides, if any, of Bxstr ownership. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Look out for the front end of a TT in your rear view mirror instead of the back end of a Boxster through the windscreen! []

Before I purchased my Boxster in 2004, I had a test drive in an Audi TT. I am afraid that there is very little comparison. The driving position in a Boxster is infinitely superior and the roadholding is much better. I found it very hard to get comfortable in the TT, and despite my best endeavours [and that of an Audi salesman] could not get far enough away from the windscreen to feel that I could drive at ease. In the end I terminated the test driver feeling that I had driven a fine car but not one in which I felt either comfortable or at ease.
It was a very different story with the Boxster [and I had a 2.7 litre engine]. The driving position was as good as I hoped [about the same as an MX 5 except the cabin was larger] and the whole driving experience was marvellous. It holds the road in a surprisingly good manner and is responsive and, indeed, forgiving to minor errors of judgement. The engine sound is great, there is plenty of storage room and the car is finished well. I ened up ordering and buying one which I kept for over 2 years.
Do have a test drive of the new Boxster, I feel sure that you will not be disappointed.
Good luck with your purchase.
Take that test drive and you will see what I mean !

I agree. I had a 225 brake TT for almost 3 years and the difference with my Boxster s is beyond comparison. THe BOxster is a drivers car in so many more ways-road holding handling gearbox, throttle response etc
It's a great shame as I love the look of the original TT.

Wait and try the new TT
Why? The new TT has already been group tested and as good as it has now become it's no Porsche eater for sure [8D]

It affects about 1 in 3 boxsters but it doesn't lead to engine damage, clutch failure or anything else. Getting it fixed is no guarantee that it won't happen again.
To find out if a car you're viewing has it, just look for drips of oil just in front of the rear wheels. IMO the worst thing about it is the oil patch you will get on the drive just like the ones you get from other real cars like land rovers[]. Don't let it put you off or you're going to miss out on so much fun![]

It look superb. Sounds like... well, as only a Porsche can and goes sooooo much better than anything I've ever driven. I've not been behind the wheel of a TT but my cars previous owner had one prior to the Box. He reconned the TT didn't come within a mile of the Boxster (so said between snuffles as he said goodbye to a much loved car).
Having just returned to my corner of Kent from a weekend away in sunny West Sussex I can only say... get one quick. They're going fast! [8D]
