Changing Battery

I am about to change the battery in my 99 S as it still has the original Moll battery! If I keep my battery maintainer attached to the battery leads whilst removing the old battery will this maintain all the engine management settings/radio etc or I have read that you can connect to the fuse box? I understand also that I would need to keep the key in position 2 whilst the change is made?

It's only the radio code you have to worry about when you disconnect the battery. If you have the code, I wouldn't bother leaving the charger connected.

If you connect the maintainer and leave the ignition on (to stop the alarm siren sounding), then when you disconnect the battery the charger is going to have to cope with all the loads that are switched on (interior lights, fuel pumps, aircon, etc) which will probably be too much for it to cope with.
