Still finishing off the brakes, however next job is to replace the grommet on the boot lock on my cabrio - any advice on this? I'm sure it can't be that hard, but that's what they said about changing brakes pads.....!

This is a job i was going to tackle today on my cab as the grommet has split.
It doesn't look too difficult but i'm going to dip the new grommet in some boiling water beforehand to soften it up.

I changed the grommets on both the 944 ansd the 924S recently. Give the grommet a spray with WD40 rather than heating it in water. Oil just help the grommet slip into place, all in all an easy job with no pitfalls.

Cheers,

thanks guys - I'm assuming you have to remove the lock barrel first? or does it just slip over from the outside?

Remove the lock barrel. On the coupe it is just two 10mm nuts to be removed to dismantle the whole assembly from the panel. Getting it back together is a bit of a fiddle. I can pm you with a list of expletives that I used during the re-assembly if you wish. However, standard swear words work just as well.[:D]

Cheers,

thanks Fred,
as the old one "fell out" without taking anything apart, and there was quite a large gap around the barrel, I was able to squeeze the new one in, with the help of a little WD40, without needing to take the barrel out. Job done!

I didn't remove my lock barrel - no need, just carefully slice old one out with a modelling knife and the new one will pop in with some softening up
