Chasing extra BHP in the 981

Snaggle

New member
Hi Guys,

I have decided to squeeze a bit more bhp out of the cayman. I know its not a 911, that's the one for power. But I love the handling so can't resist!

So far I have purchased the ipd plenum kit and BMC Air filters. When the lockdown eases up I am making a trip to Carnewal Belgium for an exhaust system. I was going for the custom headers (200cell high flow cats.) and GT-Exhaust. But the real question is who do I trust to do a solid remap?

Jago,

I'm sure that there are plenty of UK-based tuners, but Jens Ehresmann in Germany has a lot of Cayman tuning experience. COBB and FVD-Bromberger offer software upgrades using plug-in flash tools, but whatever you choose you're not going to get a huge power and torque increase from your naturally aspirated engine for a significant outlay, although you'll most likely get better throttle response and driveability.

Hi Jeff, I have looked into Jen and his garage. He does seam like the main man in this department. Was hoping for someone closer to home.

Hi, I had my last 2007 2.7 remapped by Ace Remaps (https://ecuremappingshrewsburytelford.co.uk/) So far for me in the last few years they have remapped a T5 C70 Volvo, a 5.0 V8 Merc SL500 and a Porsche Cayman 2.7. They are excellent and have come out to do these at my place of work, the results vary, the biggest difference was obviously on the Volvo, as it is turbo charged, but both the Merc and the Porsche revved a bit freer and the throttle response was improved and I got about a 18% increase in both power and torque.

I haven't had my new 2.9 mapped yet and probably won't as I am more than happy with how it is, as I hardly ever push it anyway.

On some other forums Wayne Schofield of Chipwizards is highly recommended, both for customer service and results. They are custom tuners so would get the best out of your other mods. DMS Automotive also get good write ups but I think they are the pre-programmed route rather than bespoke. It would be good if you could let us know how you get on.

I looked at DMS in the early days of my 981 modification journey because their web site had 981 tunes. It turned out they hadn't and neither had anyone else as the ECU encryption had not been broken. Wayne gets good reviews but is not easy to get hold of. Cobb Accessport probably the best way to go and fit the mods to use their platform which has a number of tune versions.
