Chasing rainbows - and Turbos.

The longer I have looked around for a decent Turbo the more I realise its like chasing rainbows. There are quite a few around, but most have got something wrong with them. Then, you find one that looks right and when you get there it really wasn't what it was meant to be.

But very, very occasionally you come to the end of the rainbow and there is a nice 911 Turbo. But the rub is, the owner wants a pot of gold in exchange. And you find out that many people have made the same journey and offered large sums of gold, but the owner wants a larger pot of gold.

But how big a pot of gold is fair for a good Turbo? I don't know anyone who has actually paid more than £20k for one. I am ASSURED by several dealers that a really good low mileage one should not cost me more than £22-23k. But yet they never appear.

I do wonder whether people with the really good ones have a buyer lined up already, and that they don't ever put their cars to market. One thing is for sure, they don't seem to park them at the end of rainbows.

Tough one and as you have probably discovered (as I did on a flight over New Zealand below) that there is no end to a rainbow it is just a full circle [;)]

All the best in finding your right priced Turbo.

I'd even go for an overpriced Turbo, but when people want £30k + for a car thats worth about £20k I cannot just bite the bullet.

Sorry, camera not fast enough to capture a bullet being bitten :ROFLMAO:

It may feel like chasing rainbows but from time to time there are good 930 Turbo's to be had (I've got one) but indeed it took a while to find. If you are particular about colour/interior it can take longer.

I personally based my search on condition, service history and obviously PPI, leakdown and compression test results, as you know low mileage does not guarantee anything.

As for owners wanting a premium price, even a good Turbo requires a reasonable amount of cash spending on it "" to ensure it remains a good Turbo.

Unless you are lucky enough to buy a good one between 17/20k you will rarely recover cash you have spent maintaining it let alone make any money when selling your car "" IMO.

I have seen 930 Coup and Cabs at 27k plus recently and know a number of people who have paid between 21/24k for a good 930.

Without doubt they are a fantastic car to own for whatever period of time, and they love to be driven hard (when possible), I hope you find yours!

Good Luck in your search!

Thanks.

Tell me about your car (either on or off line). What colour / miles / price. I'd be very grateful, because it helps me build a picture.

Manks... just to clarify things... are you looking for a 930 model Turbo, or a 964 model Turbo? There are plenty of left hander 964 Turbo's at that price level, but only a few very rough right handers.

It depends entirely upon what the car is. Age, miles, condition, history, number of owners, originality etc etc.

Email me some more details and we can have a chat.
