Here we go....

My numbers are. 1986 Guards Red 924S no:- WP0ZZZ92GN400262

1983 White ltd 924 le mans no:- WP0ZZZ92ZDN403783

Just thought I'd mention ... I didn't think there was a 1983 White 924 Le Mans :0(

There was only the

1980 924 Le Mans in Alpine White

and the

1987/88? 924S Le Mans in White and Black

I have a 1980 Le Mans, and the chassis numbers stack up, mine is BN (1980) yours appears to be DN (1982)

I have a letter from Porsche telling me that the car is original, that there were 1030 made, and that there were 100 RHD

I thought I'd let you know

Hello Tim,

Thank you for detailed information. Mine indeed is a le mans model as confirmed by Porsche.....

I have the script near the front wheel arches, spider web wheels, four spoke steering wheel, white piping seats etc etc

Regards

Sean

[:)]Tim....

I appreciate what you have written. But perhaps you should do your homework a little better.

Look in the following books and magazines[8|]

Original Porsche 924/944/968 by Peter Morgan
Porsche 924 by Brian Long
Porsche 924,944,968 by Jerry Sloniger
Porsche 'Engineering For Excellence' by Tony Dron
Practical Classics magazine dated September 1996.

I could go on and on. I do have all the books and magazines to do with the 924.

I didn't mean to upset ayone :0( Sorry if I have :0(

I have owned my Le Mans for 18 years, and everything I have ever read (books et al) says that there was only a 1980/81 (W) 924 Le Mans ... as for doing my homework I am pretty sure I am right?

I own some of the books you list so I will take another look ...

But in the meantime ....

(long link - hope it works)

This is my car

I had a 'chassis check' done on my car by Porsche (costs £) thats why I have the details

Just found this .....

http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Porsche-924#924_Special_Production

Also ... looking at the Porsche PET for the 924 (1980-1985) and searching for "Le Mans" gives Le Mans specific parts for the 1981 model only.

M426 SPECIAL EDITION "LE MANS" '81

There is a Special Model for 1982 listed as ...

M402 924 - ANNIVERSARY CAR '82

I don't know anything about that one? Could this be your car? (obviously very limited run, as I've never read anything on this one)

I suppose it is conceivable that a 1980/81 car was registered in 1982 ... but surely the chassis should be BN not DN ..... not a typo is it?

Very interesting this ..... I thought they were all 1980/81 ?

Dear Tim,

You haven't upset me.

I have the original purchase recipt from an official Porsche Dealer quoting 'White 924 Le Mans'.

I have seen some 1980,81,83 and 1984 white Le Mans models with the appropriate exterior/ interior equipment. I'm currently building up some spares for my Le Mans model like the front wings, seats etc etc. I know that these cars are getting rare now.

I will ask Paul the register secretary how many Le Mans models are registered in the uk.

Its like my 924S, registered in November 1985 but regonised as a 1986 model.???

Confusing these cars. :)

My wife brought the car for me two years ago. It was our wedding anniversary.

Take care.

Hi Sean

I'm pleased I haven't upset you )

If you have a purchase receipt from Porsche saying its a Le Mans then thats one better than me, I don't have the purchase receipt for my car :0(

I looked in those books you mentioned (Original Porsche 924/944/etc - Morgan and Porsche 924, etc - Sloniger) and they say that the Le Mans was a 1980 model ... which is where I was coming from

Looks like Porsche may have bashed out a few more over the following years ....

The problem withthe chassis numbers is that they are not continuous. I tried to get a definitive list of the Le Mans cars from Porsche, but they wouldn't/couldn't help :0(

Looks like they pulled Alpine White 924s off the production line every now and again and made them a Le Mans. As you know they differences are cosmetic apart from the Koni shocks which were fitted as standard.

Nice wedding anniversary present bythe way :0)

My wife 'effectively' bough me the Boxster S 550 for my birthday last year, but I still have the 924, its part of the family.

As mentioned above my car featured in the book 'Porsche 924/944/etc by Peter Morgan' ... looks better then than it does now

It would be nice to know how many are left in the UK, and how many are on the Register

Cheers

Tim

Hello Tim,

Your Le Mans featured in the book looks very nice.

It started when my wife brought me the car for our 2nd wedding anniversary two years ago. I knew that the 924 Le Mans was a special car. It was a non runner with only 84,000 miles and a folder full of recipts. I have spent two years restoring the car back to its former glory and hope to car the car on the road in spring 2009.

Since then I caught the bug. I was going to get a late 911 air cooled or a 993 car, but with the things the way they are at the moment in the economic world I decided to sell my tiptronic Honda Prelude and brought myself a very nice and immaculate 924S.

These little cars do bring a smile to my face and I enjoy driving my 924S everyday to work. Its probably one of the best little cars I have driven. And just like your 924 I think that over time the two 924's I have will be become part of the family. They are a little understated and underatted and thats what I like.

Perhaps we should meet up oneday and have a good chat about these cars.

I'm going to 911& Posrche World pinic in the park on the 28th September. I'll be taking my 924S.

And your boxster looks very nice[:)].

Hi Sean

There is a back story to that book article containing my Le Mans .... the photographer (Simon Clay) contacted me, and asked me to suggest a few places in the area that would be good for a photo shoot and we met up. He had a list of specific photos he had to take (from Peter Morgan I guess) and he took those. I then suggested that he might like to take a few more, like of the engine, etc. He said 'why not'and low and behold I ended up getting it in the book ! along with loads more extra ones he took as well.

So I have pictures on pages 19, 22, 30, 119 and I even get a mention by name on page 11 :0)

I bought the car in 1989, a friend of mine already had a 924 with the Pascha trim (checked) and I really wanted one. Up till them I had my sights on an Opel Manta! I drove it work for many years, then decided it wasn't too practical for the run to work ... my services were coming up too soon ... so I bought an Atra MK2 GTE 16V, then a Rover 200vi, then a Rover 200BRM (all on the sporty side). Last year my wife inherited some money, and we bought the Boxster S 550. we are now a 3 car family.

The Le Mans is showing its age .... paintwork is cracking, seats are ripped. I would like to restore it too, but it will never be worth what I'd have to pay to get it spot on ..... one day maybe

I'd like to get some new stripes for it .... there was a thread sometime back about stripes, don't know if anyone actually bought any in the end ?

I think we will be going along to the 911 & Porsche World Picnic ... we did last year.

As for the Boxster ..... I seem to aquire special edition cars, even the Rover 200BRM was a limited edition. But I have been told by the wife I must quit this buying a car and then keeping it forever lark :0)

What I need is a 5 car garage !

Good luck with the restoration .... keep us posted

Cheers
Tim
