So really great to see that we'll have some sounds of moving Porsches at this event on the Saturday... Members day is the Saturday then, with the general great unwashed (and Ferrari owners) allowed in on the Sunday [;)] As mentioned elsewhere the 997 focus will be the soapbox Derby, but more information will hopefully be after this weekend. We will need willing hands to make light work [:)] garyw

Chateau Impney National Event 18th/19th August 2012

Planning for the Club's prestigious event at Chateau Impney in August is well under way with the events team working hard to deliver you this exciting event.

With over 40 committed traders will be onsite on the Friday setting up their stands ready for opening on the Saturday, which is exclusively a Members day. The majority of the trade stands will be held inside the Trade Exhibition Centre, but there will be two more areas outside as requests for pitches have been exceptional. In addition to the these we are planning a shopping "˜mall' upstairs in the Trade Exhibition Centre with lots of lovely artisan goodies to keep the ladies and children equally entertained and something to visit that is not just about the cars! Children's activities will also be on site throughout the weekend, more details to follow of how exciting these will be, but the weekend will be a fun family affair.
The hotel and grounds are being taken over for the weekend by the Club for the sole use of the members who attend. Pre-booked hotel rooms will be available from lunchtime on Friday. Friday evening will be an opportunity to relax and catch up with old friends in the hotel restaurant and bar, setting the scene for the weekend ahead.
Porsche Cars GB will be in the foyer of the Trade Centre with five of the latest models on display with their staff on hand to answer your questions and of course to take your deposit for your new Porsche! We will have items from the Club's Porsche Selection catalogue also.

Throughout the weekend there will be a Concours of various categories, Register Displays, Soap Box Derby(thats where we come in [:D]), Michelin driving challenge with their 911, Michelin Simulator, Jubilee display and children's play area. We are currently working with other potential attractions to make it a weekend to remember

***Early Saturday afternoon will be a convoy of Le Mans cars going to Droitwich town market place (consisting of 917/934/935/RSR/956 and 962) for a 30min display in the town and photo shoot, followed by a leisurely return to Chateau Impney for a drive through the grounds. Should be a sight and sound to savour!*** found my highlight then [:)]

Saturday evening will kick off with pre-dinner drinks and entertainment whilst you are seated.
The evening's Buffet will feature a selection of hot and cold dishes, a selection of puddings, coffee and tea.
Table reservations for groups of 10 will be available, please mention if you require a reservation and on which table on your booking form. Our entertaining and informative guest speaker will be followed by founder club members discussing the early days, no doubt equally entertaining and insightful.
The disco will encourage us all to dance the night away until late! For those unable to attend the dinner, the hotel can cater for over 100 people in the dining rooms and bar area downstairs.

Sunday, the public day, will follow a similar theme to Saturday with a charity auction of Porsche related articles and many other donated items. Later in the afternoon will be the Awards & prizes for Concours.
More information will be available in next months Porsche Post

Hello Gary. Look forward to the event. You mention that the concours will be going on throughout the weekend. Hopefully for any particular class the judging and awards presentation (I should be so lucky) will be on the same day. I, and perhaps others, may find it difficult to attend both days. Regards Brian.

Brian there should hopefully be more details on the running and timings in the weeks to come. I'm concerned about the two days but know traders prefer a two day event and some people do work on Saturdays. I also feel it splits the attendance figures, rather than an excellent turnout for the one, but the clubs been here longer than me, so must know what it's doing. garyw

Two days is about right. It's a lot of work to do for just one day. Moreover, part of the pleasure is not only the evening meal, but breakfast the next day Three days is IMHO too long.

For those interested, please be aware that the on site accomodation is now all fully booked, so you would need to book elsewhere off site if you are planning on making a weekend of it. Uptake has been great as you tell tell by no rooms at the Inn.... garyw

Looks lovely.... Details of the soap box derby that the register is running.... Soap Box Derby As part of this year’s national event we are running a soap box derby - but fear not! with the time constraints were going to be using the clubs adult pedal karts for everyone to enjoy. This year’s event location at the Chateau Impney offers us a fantastic area to use, a dual lane tarmac area which is actually one of the roads from the venue with plenty of twists and turns following it’s decent from the hotel grounds. It will allow us to run the kart competitors side by side for some proper pedal kart racing! The entire route is fenced either side, so allows plenty of places to view, cheer and jeer as the teams and participants make their way to the finish line. Saturday is the members day and we’re planning on a inter-region and register competition of timed runs side by side with each other to add to the drama. It’s hoped that most regions and register will be able put a team of 3 together as were looking at a relay style race- two drivers and a pusher. If there is the interest then we’ll run it as a league but if not then it’s your chance to settle a grudge, perhaps kettles versus beards... all in the best fun obviously. If you could contact your RO or RS in the first instance to show your team interest or club office for independent competitors. The prize should reflect the event and with that we are hoping to have a driving style prize, so not only will you have the glory to gloat about on Saturday evening but a prize too! Sunday we’ll be running a morning and afternoon session for single team drivers and again a prize for the top karter . The event will again be run with drivers side by side on the starting line for that competitive feel. This is all free of charge to enter and just part of the events happening at the Château on the 18th and 19th August.

That cost does include the entertainment during the evening- although agreed at £7 its a good cost, even if it were to cost you more to get to and from the hotel (It's a cracking road [;)] ) garyw

Just received our splendid Club magazine. As I feared the National Concours appears to be limited to those who are able to attend both days, i.e. judging on Saturday and awards on Sunday. Hopefully our hard working organising team will correct me if I am wrong and advise that it is possible for both judging and awards to be on the same day, I would assume Sunday. Whilst not a concours, interestingly the 911 Turbo display cars will be appraised and rewarded on one day, as stated by Paul on page 9 of the magazine. This is not a complaint but merely an observation from someone who will be disappointed not to be able to enter. Thank you, Brian.

Brian I'll ask the question to clarify it for you. Whilst I can see why they would want cars there for the two days, it does seem a tad excessive- but then I've never understood concours [;)] Karting challenge is over the one day with a separate competition on the following day- for the reasons you mention. garyw

After some very constructive comments from members we have decided that the Saturday evening buffet will be changed to a full sit down 4 course meal. There will be no extra cost to the membership as we will be covering the difference with sponsorship. We feel sure that you will all enjoy this so much better and it also ensures that you will all get excellent value for your money. The menu is as follows: Fan of Melon with Fruit Coulis Or Butternut Squash Soup **** Breast of Chicken with Creamy Asparagus Sauce Or Baked Salmon with Tarragon and Mushroom sauce Seasonal Vegetable and Potatoes **** Sweets Fresh Strawberries with Cream Crème Brulee with Shortbread Fingers **** Coffee and Mints There will of course be a vegetarian option on the night

As posted by our club Chairman earlier; Acknowledging that an army marches on its stomach, considerable planning has gone into making the food outlets at Chateau Impney, both good value and excellent quality. Throughout the day and in addition to the food provided by Chateau Impney, Cindy Brittan, (the excellent caterer from Eynsham 2006), will be providing good quality food and ice-cream to suit all budgets. As a long-term Porsche owner herself, Cindy is committed to offering value for money, quality, no-nonsense food... for those that did not make Eynsham '06, you will not be disappointed with the selection of food on offer. During Saturday night, and for those choosing the dinner, the cost Vs 2011 has been significantly reduced, and with numbers booked already nearing the 300 mark Vs sub-200 in 2011, the dinner price/ value for money has been well received by the members. In addition, Saturday evening will also see a selection of bar snacks –provided by Chateau Impney. These are much as you would have in your local – ie excellent hand-made burgers etc. – We cannot plan for all tastes, but we hope that this will be well-received. Ticket sales are going well and the weather forecast from a member with an 'airforce' back-ground, reliably informed me yesterday that the jet stream has now moved away for several weeks, and that we are predicted fine weather for mid-August. The on-site toilet facilities provided at Chateau Impney are good and although we still have much to do for this year's event, we are getting there. Thank you Peter, (Bull), for overseeing this year's National Event. One area that the membership could still really help with is that of needing a few more volunteers – not many, but ideally we need 20 more members for a maximum of 2 hrs on each day. If you, or a friend were able to assist for a maximum of 2 hrs on either day, then it would be very much appreciated. 2 hrs = x1 free 'day pass' per person + event polo-shirt/ 2 hrs on both days = x1 free 'weekend pass' per person + event polo-shirt. To register as a volunteer, please email: events@porscheclubgb.com On behalf of the Board, Chateau Impney '12 is about members reacquainting old friendships and forging new ones, whilst enjoying their cars – please come along for the weekend of 18 & 19th August 2012. Nick Hine, Communications Director and Chairman

So the big event is this weekend!! Anyone planning to go?? It seem to be a build up like the Olympics- no ones bothered until right up to the day and then everyones wanting to go [;)] As you should know, I'll be there both days... and Friday..[:)] garyw

I am (or rather Porky is) in the Jubilee display on Saturday so looking forward to meeting other 997 members.

I know it's me and probably a sign of rapidly advancing years but I cannot see in any of the blurb what time the event opens. What time can I arrive at Chateau Impney on Saturday and "get in"?
