I'm looking around at getting a 944 and have seen this at what looks like about half price? Am I missing something , I realise that seeing as I'm drawing attention to it , it might be sold but is it a pup just because its done so few miles?
Dealer doesn't look reputable btw as its on ebay at £3K and autotrader at £1890... mmmm
Alex
944

Thanks .
is ppi a private inspection? ie: paying a mechanic to look at it?
sorry to be dumb :(
al
BTW I phoned them (theyre in yardley, brum) and they guy sounded bored and unhelpful :( not a good sign...

Had a quick look at the pictures and it has a patch passenger side bottom sill ?
near the rear wheel arch ? Beware or sill rot and general rot underneath ?
overall it does look like a clean early model 944 .
I bought one that had just over one months new M.O.T and trust me when I say that there was no way it should have passed an M.O.T

If you are after a 944 at the right money and a good clean example ?
You might be better off asking here on the forum , see if anyone wants to sell there's ? Or knows of any tucked away in a nice dry garage.

You are better off paying a little bit more and get a good decent genuine car , best of luck with your quest mate/

Thanks,
Yeah, I am looking for something a bit "honest"
here is that same car on ebay for 1k more with more photos
ebay

looking on here might be the way forward....

Wasn't this car for sale at that dodgy S2000 garage down south but with 16" teledials? (....halved in value when they swapped them for those replica wheels)

edh,
mmm, the "seller" has this car on other sites too at varying prices and the garage called different names. I thought it looked too cheap :(

I took the advise of a previous poster and see that someone on here has three 944's for sale (elliot) and tbh they look more genuine, just for an example..

Btw, If I'm looking at a 944 LUX and I have to figure in an immenent timing belt change what sort of money should I be thinking of.. My local mechanic (who's very good) charges about £25 an hour to me... So for a blt change £500, £800?? I know its moveable but I mean as a ball park figure..
Thanks
Al

£500 for a belt change is a fair estimate - depending on what needs doing. if it's just the 2 belts then it'll be less, it might need rollers, seals & water pump as well.

I'm sure someone went to look at the blue car & it was a rot box. They can look nice & shiny on the outside but can be very rusty in the sills.

Yeah,
low miles isn't always a good thing I guess, Elliot on here has a couple for sale and one of them is low mlieage and he describes all the work he's done to it , a much more realistic bet :)

It's got a 930 sticker on the hatch , and that if I'm not mistaken is 9meisters old company name. It's maybe worth a phone call to Colin to see if he remembers the car or if it was still going to him for repairs. Colin is a good guy and I'm sure he will help if he can.

That's not this car, I went to see that one and it was a shed and an '86 with the oval dash.

If that was the one in four marks on the A31 (up North ;) ) it was closed when I went passed a couple of weeks ago.

I know we'd like our 944's to be worth a lot more byt 2,000 for a square dash is actually top end money isnt it not a bargain ?
Also if I bought an early' square dash car' I'd want to do it justice and have period wheels on it, I think late wheels on an early car look very slap dash, no offence intended [;)] Cookie cutters may be considerdd lowly by some but I think they really suit an early car and are relatively cheep. Fusch of course look even better if you want to double the price of your lux

A pre purchase inspection on a not very expensive car could be prohibitive especially if you view 5 cars ! , i'd at least learn the 944 faults to look for and take a competent friend or fellow enthusiast with you then you could always have an inspection on that final choice car.

On another issue , hasn't one of our well known trader/members got a couple of cheap cars for sale. Id rather buy from him and know exactly what you're getting if a first time buyer.

Just a few thoughts anyway and very best of luck purchasing.

Whereabouts are you based?

I know of a few specialists who should do the belts for around your £500 figure, maybe less (one will do it for less, but I reckon he does not include changing the tensioners).

No pictures of the interior that I can see. That means old, worn out, cracked and ripped and probably bad colours too.

re the first car just for alexs info......

the square dash cars like the first one have 5 digits not 6 for mileage recording on the speedo, this means you see a lot of early 944s that apparently are sub 100k and advertised as such - which like this one is imo highly unlikely unless they have good service history.

Vosa dont "approve" mileages they just record them at time of mot and that will only go back so far.

A lot better and more interesting cars to be had for 2k!

finally on the orig blue car - my big bug bear is crap rear porsche scripts!

Thanks for all the replies and helpful advice. I've got a better idea of what to look for now I think. Will keep my eyes open on here. The member on here has sold his couple of cheaper ones but I will keeping looking on here. I divide my time between Leominster in herefordshire and Rhayader in mid wales btw. A 30 yr old 944 is an indulgence so I can wait for a good un or at least one I like :)
