Cheap compressor and air tools

Aldi have their Wolf compressor again and various bits.
I've had one for 6 months or so and for home use its ideal.
Only issue is that it uses its own connections not PCL but you can buy adaptors direct from Wolf and they are quite cheap.

Can you not just change them all to PCL fittings anyway? For instance you should be able to fix any fitting you want to the 1/2" nut gun or preferably a whip.

That's a good spot but what are the chances of them actually having more than one per store?

Get a 944 - it at all goes in there!
When I bought mine there were plenty in stock a few days later. Sadly you can't ring the stores and ask.
I don't imagine there would be a huge issue.

Rob - of course you could swap all the connectors over - I juts couldn't be bothered!

I just wish I had a workshop to use such a thing in, and if I had I'd be buying one in a flash.

I've seriously considered putting one in the basement and running an air fitting to the front of the house (Georgian terraced house), allowing me to take a feed out to tools on the street, but that's going a bit far methinks.

Well I already have an electrical socket and tap installed on the front of the house, and people walking along the pavement tend to cross the road when they see wires and hoses snaking across the pavement!

(In fact, I am 100% positive that all my neighbours have me down as some kind of weirdo given the amount of time I spend working on my beloved S2. But then, as my late grandfather said, "You can tell an enthusiast when the RPM of the nuts and bolts is greater than the RPM of the engine ... ")

Picked my compressor up today. Got the impact wrench set, cut-off tool, spot blaster and the inline water trap/oiler.I'm quite impressed. Although I was surprised that the compressor didn't come with the pipes. The pipes did come with the water trap though.I've just had some fun taking the rear wheels off the rover to investigate a spring failure. My driveway sounded like an f1 garage! [:D]

picked up spot blaster kit today good value for a tenner, use it on xr3i project car to sort some rust spots out

Good spot David!

Got to my local store just as they opened and found that they had 6 compressors. Within 1 minute 3 had gone and I bagged the 4th!

I also picked up the impact wrench, cut off tool, nibbler, spot blaster and hose/regulator/oiler set and dragged them down to the tills.

Shame no one pointed out that Aldi don't take credit cards.......[8|]

Had to stand guard over them and get Sally to come down with a debit card [:D]

Had a play with my impact wrench last night.

Maybe mine is a dud as there was no way it would undo my wheel nuts and there were no F1 garage sounds going on! [&:]

Did yours seem to cope easily or did it only just manage??

Anyone else used one of these on 944 wheel nuts?

I noticed this too to start with. Mine was just making a wooshing noise...

I made sure that the quick release was properly sealed with PTFE tape on the thread and upped the pressure to nearly 8 (i know if says that 7 is the max, but when you pull the trigger, the pressure drops anyway).

It was now making the 'ta-ta-ta' noise, but wasn't removing the wheel nuts. Then I remembered who put the wheels on last time - it was a garage and they used a big impact wrench to tighten the nuts. To get them off I ended up using a 50cm telscopic nut wrench and jumped on it reapeatedly. Me thinks they were on a little bit too tight! When i put teh wheels back on, I tightened them up to what I think is the correct amount ( I need a torque wrench really), then tried to undo them with the gun again. It worked.

So, I came to the conclusion that a) It's a cheap gun, so it won't do nuts that are stuck fast. That's why there are £150 impact guns in machine mart! b) Garages never torque wheel nuts up correctly

Whoah! Sounds like a garage to avoid in the future ... wheelnuts that tight can cause serious problems. Maybe OK with steel ones on bimbleboxes but not for alloy ones such as are on a 944 ...

Thanks for that Simdel1

I actually brought the gun into work today and took it into the engineering shop.

Connecting it striaght in to their compressed air supply made a huge difference. This was at no higher pressure, in fact slightly lower, but with a shorter and slightly bigger diameter hose.

I used it through the air regulator/filter/oiler wth the 2 hoses it comes with last night so I'll try it again tonight with a shorter fatter hose.
