Cheap Donington Track Day - Fri 31st Oct

Just thought I'd make you all aware of a 'trackdays' run day at Donington on Fri 31st October. It is a sessioned full day on the full national circuit and is only £110 for the full day! Yes, I know it's end of Oct but still a bargain in my opinion. I have already booked with 3 other cars (non-Porsche), but thought some of you would like the tip off.

More at www.trackdays.co.uk

I did a full day with them in June which was fantastic and am now hooked, hence doing another...

Hopefully see some other '44s there.
Chris.

That sounds ideal for me too!

See you there[:D]

Although, I see they are also doing one at Oulton Park on the same day....

Decisions, decisions.....[;)]

May not be many more chances to drive Donington before they make it F1 friendly (if it ever happen, which I still doubt)

I'll be booking on Tuesday when I have a bit more time to sort it out

I've never heard a loud 944 turbo! - (mine measured 87.5 db static @ Oulton)

Most 944 turbos just seem to whisper past compared to the other cars (I'm not counting Paul's jet fighter impressions [;)])

I've only seen a few cars fall foul of Donington's noise limits, but they are stuff like 964's with cup pipes, and a friend with a much modified nissan (no silencers at all!)

OK, I think I will have to plump for the Donny day in that case. It will be my first 'proper' trackday in the 944 so the bigger run-off areas at Donnington vs Oulton might be a good idea.....![8|][:D]

Anyone else going?

OK, I'm booked on this one - £110 for a whole day is a good deal, even if it will probably be raining....[:D]

Anyone else fancy a meet up?

My first venture on track in the '44, so all you veterans can have a laugh at my expense....[8|][:D]

I'm booked - see you there Nick [:D] - now we need some more red 951's there - Scott?

Donington's lots of fun in the wet [;)] - but as you say, plenty of run off

My last day at Donington was torrential rain but brilliant fun (apart from a spin at 85 coming onto the back straight, which was nice!), even though the speeds were massively less that the dry (we had one dry session out of all 7 in the day) it is worth every penny, and at £110 for the Oct date I don't care what the weather brings. Proof of conditions attached...

I think that's me doing the back stroke 5 cars behind you! I was there with a group of us from Boxa.net. A bit of a nightmare day with lots of time lost pulling all those saab's out of the kitty litter. I also only managed one dry session which was a shame as it was my first time I've been to Donny and my nearly bald tyres were not fun in all that rain. I was just getting into the swing of it on the dry track after lunch when it poured it down again.
Is this is you as well Chris?

Hi Tony, yes that's me! The Saab's were very funny - especially their lack or cornering capability - although some of them did appear quick in a straight line, even though they made no noise!

I didn't appreciate how slippy donington is until actually experiencing it first hand, driving home in the rain felt so much easier - it's definately worth another go, hopefully see you there again...

Bump![;)]

Anyone else booked onto this excursion? Last chance before they concrete half of Donnington and restrict access so as to mimic the Silverstone experience...[;)]

I still don't think there's much chance of them getting Donington ready for 2010 - and as for access......at least Silverstone has a dual carriageway running past the door!

I think it will be quicker to walk the 15 miles from my house to the circuit on GP weekend [:D]

I don't think it will be even half way ready either, but it would still be a tragedy to lose the character of Donnington under a Silverstone'esque makeover[8|]

I see there are some equally good trackday deals in November too - Oulton for £99 anyone....[:D]

The planning application is in -here's a link to the new track layout (no idea if this link will work)

I would have thought there's a good chance they will retain the character of the track - after all, you can't really flatten it out [;)] . The new track section is interesting - it gives you the opportunity to create 2 smaller circuits, and a new "national" circuit that would miss it out, but would essentially be the same layout as we have now, apart from the changes at the Esses.

I was considering Oulton on Nov 28th - is that the one Nick?

I think theyl be able to run at least 5 different configurations. Not all at the same time though...Looks interesting. I saw the aplication last week...
I hope they pull it off...
Only snag is, im sure the T day prices will rise....???[8|][8|][8|][8|]

Oh I like that [8D]

Turn 2, downhill and curving to the left before braking into a tight hairpin will be fantastically tricky. If they make it off camber as well yikes! The rest of the circuit looks pretty much unchanged. Nice

I can't find anywhere that lists the total length.

They did say it gave a 77 sec lap time on a simulator - just shows you how fast those F1 cars are!

Mmm, tempted, i've not done a trackday this year and Donington is good fun - though the run off is usually slippery grass into a gravel trap or tyre barrier! Struggling for time off at work at the mo but might be able to squeeze in a half day, if available. Failing that I can pop over for a couple of hours around my lunchtime and have a look.

There's more run off than almost any other track I can think of - apart from Silverstone I guess (and Bedford, if you want to count that)
