Cheap RS in 911 & P.W.

Anyone see the black lhd up for £19,950 in the classifieds in 911 & P.W. ? At that price there must be a 'story' - I just can't believe there are any major pricing inefficiencies left in this very specialist market. I looked at the web link (can't remember what it is - maple something.com etc...) in the ad and surprise surprise it is with a dealer who specialises in salvage / stolen / recovered. If it has merely been stolen and recovered then perhaps there is a bargain waiting for someone ?????? It's difficult to see from the pictures if anything is amiss, but perhaps you eagle-eyed RS spotters might notice something ??

There was a black 964RS about ,which had water damage........could be the car...apparently other than that it was ok...maybe a bargain for someone...be careful out there![&:]

It's got non-original cloth Recaros in as well, plus I'm not sure the bling speakers and 996 gearknob would appeal to all. Obviously been reworked somewhat with front PU off a C2 with the washer nozzle holes and non-original seats. Plus the rear should have a 'Carrera RS' badge on the back, not just RS. Still, might be OK for the money as 10k cheaper than a pukka one [;)]

Just checked it out on HPI.

Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ96ZNS490283
Engine number: 62N80716
UK Registered: 09/02/98
Owners: 2 in uk.

The bad news: Cat D accident damaged on 25/03/2000

Could be a good buy, but don't rely on information I've provided here. You must get it inspected.

Does that make it a genuine RS or not ? Clearly it's been patched up with some C2 bits - not a promising sign, and I share Domster's views on the 'enhancements' ! Though to be fair I think the speakers are just missing the grilles, but personally I don't like the stainless sill covers either. Anyway as stated above, could be a decent buy for someone.

Chassis number indicates a genuine RS, but get it inspected if anyone wants it.

It has not got Rs 4 spoke s/wheel, and with standard front bumper it would be worth making sure it has the correct ally bonnet. Make sure the wheels are genuine! What is the mileage?

So .... Does it still have the mags.... if not add £1.5k don't forget to add tyres
Does it have the RS seats if not add £1k
So it needs a correct bumper at least and maybe correct bonnet add another 2k maybe a bit more
has it been repaired properly ........hmmm
don't sound quite so cheap now does it. Though if all you want is a cheapish track day toy then it's a bargain.

Just seen the pics. Have to say it looks ok, but pictures hide a multitude of sins. I personally could live with the front Pu and the cloth recaro's, though I would wonder why they were changed out. Would need a good check over(but that's the case for any RS). If it's sound it would make a cracking track day car.

Mark Broadhead sold his black RS earlier this year for £21k - a genuine car - engine rebuild etc etc - needed disks and the spolier motor sorting - that's a good buy. This particular car is not - for all the reasons pointed out above. Just my personal opinion, mind, but compare it to the repaired cup car we talked about on here recently, which also looked cheap, until we saw the salvage pictures.

Having said that - £15k would be a good price to buy the car at wouldn't it?

My own personal opinion is an RS in good condition with minor problems sold at 21k is probably selling the car cheap. But people have different reasons for selling and it was obviously someone elses gain. And in fairness I have seen some horrendous bills for brake repairs if the brakes are in a very bad way.
With regard for the car in the ad the price seems fair assuming it's been repaired well and there are no question marks about the cars history. Assuming the car has the rest of it's standard parts you could not build a C2 to RS spec for the sum the car is offered at. £15 k at the moment buys you a good C2. It would be all to easy to get hung up on the minor probs that the car has. None of which would distract from the cars road and track ability(the three spoke wheel for instance is in many ways an improvement on the standard item and who cares if you sit on leather or cloth!). Bear in mind that the part that have been swapped out are easily replaced , so the car could be brought back to standard for a reasonable outlay. Granted though you could just buy a better example in the first place.

I think buying a cheap useable RS, even if it has been repaired (as long as it has been done well), is a good buy if you intend to track it. You could gradually get the car in better shape as things need repairing/replacing and you could relax and really have some fun in it.

Depends what you intend to do with the car I guess.

Regards
