Cheap S2 driveshafts

Correct me if I am wrong, but not all 924/944 driveshafts are equal, so they are not suitable for all the range stated... unless there is more than one type for that price.

you are correct driveshafts changed length mid 85 and of course autos are different again.

That Ebay ad is from CarParts4Less.co.uk which is part of the Eurocarparts empire, so at least it is a recognised vendor who I'm sure would stand by their products if they don't fit as advertised

If they indeed do fit an 81 to 91 car, the driveshaft will have to have about twice float usually found on a driveshaft, which is not really that desirable, or will be a length that will be too tight on an 81-85 car or too loose on an 87-91 car.

When a driveshaft went on my daily Mondeo (garage separated the joint and IMO did not refit it correctly) I ended up putting a Q-Drive unit on it, which is ECP's own brand. Despite the untouched side being fine I would go on to fit another 2 driveshafts onto the side I changed (first one developed play in the inner yoke making for interesting vibrations at speed on acceleration, the second lasted a little longer but soon developed play in the same area. I obtained a secondhand item in the end since GKN replacements were not available unless I went to Ford (where they wanted £340+VAT for a driveshaft).

As Paul has said at least they are a recognised vendor (ECP did take the driveshafts back) and in the above example the car was covering 40,000 miles a year, more than possibly any 944 out there. On a Porsche I cannot say how long they would last etc.

Thanks for all the input folks. I noted on the ECP website that they have GKN cv joints for the S2 for £108 and unbranded cv joints for £25. So i would suspect that these bargain basement driveshafts are made up with the £25 cv joints and might not last that long. Having said that, my car is not going to be a daily or a track toy so i might get away with it.
I'm going to take my driveshafts off this morning and measure them to check that these ones will fit.
Off topic, but when i was browsing the ebay shop, i found they have S2 rear discs (pagid brand) for £39 which is the cheapest i have seen. Going to get some of those anyway.

Cheers,

Tom

Just got the driveshafts off my S2 and measured them as 537.5mm. The ones in the ebay ad state 531.5mm. So it looks like these ebay ones might only be suitable for <85 cars?

I'm not going to risk it anyway so will buy CV joints and rebuild the original shafts.
