Hi again,

Following on from my earlier post, here is a list of known faults with the car as written by the owner. I have spoken to a local Porsche specailist and have arranged to take the car to them at the end of this week for a check up. Bear in mind that I intend to gradually turn it into a track car so some of these thing (like the heater problems are not a major concern) I have been negociating with the owner and we are coming to an agreement as regards various parts. e.g. it has a race spec exhaust which is way too loud for trackdays, it has a 911 plate which is worth a few hundred and other bit's and pieces like a cd multichanger which is no use to me. I'm hoping to get the price down to around £3400

When I spoke to the guy at the specialist (Red Line Racing if you've heard of them) he confirmed the prices my mate has quoted for bits and also said the car was indeed cheap and asked if it was LHD, he was even more suprised when I told him it wasn't.

Any feedback gratefully received.

Heater defect. Both heater flapper boxes require renovation or replacement. New items approx £40

Heater defect. Air ducting tubes require reinstallation (Parts on hand. Easy job)

Heater/Exhaust defect. Right hand heat exchanger exibits exhaust leak. To either repair (pain in the arse job) or replace. New unit approx £130

Gearbox defect. Selector bushes exhibit wear. Can be lived with or to replace (relatively cheap)

Both electric windows are sluggish but should free up.

Both front wings need repairing or replacing (parts on hand)

Just be careful!!

That's REALLY cheap, get it well checked over for rust problems and get the engine checked for compression and leakdown. If there are major problems in either of those areas (or both) then the car may be not worth buying.

Good luck!

Tim.

Thanks for that. It going on Friday to get inspected. As regards compression etc, I don't know much about that but I know on the test run in comprehensivly outgunned my moddified 200SX and that was putting out 280bhp!!

I realise rust could be a problem but not so much as I intend the car to be a track car so body condition is not so important.

Rust could be a problem if it's structural, you wouldn't want to be whizzing round the track and have your a-arms break off!! Be especially aware of the b-posts and door slams, if there's rot in this area you can bet it's eating away at the structural stuff under these panels as well!

Cheers,

Tim.
