This may be of interest to anyone who's trying to run a 996 on a fairly limited budget. I purchased a 10 year old 92,000 mile C4 Cab very much on the spur of the moment a few months back at what I considered to be a pretty reasonable price (but still enough to make the bank a/c look a bit lean . . .), in the knowledge that at some stage pretty soon, I'd need a couple of new back boxes. They aren't blowing yet, but the seams are looking pretty much on their last legs. As she is very much a sunny day special, my annual mileage only in the region of around 4,000, the thought of finding another £800 or so plus fittings, especially in view of the bank situation wasn't too attractive. So I looked around on the 'net for any options, and discovered Douglas Valley Breakers (visit their web site, view the cars, and cry), and Prestige Salvage, who are specialist Porsche dismantlers, and from whom I purchased a pair of what appear to be very low mileage boxes for £385 all inclusive. Their service was very efficient and helpful, and although I still need some new bolts for the clamps etc (back to the 'net) the saving has been considerable. By the way, the car's a gem, an incredible improvement over the '84 3.2 coupe I last had.
