Cheap spares

Trackrod996

This may be of interest to anyone who's trying to run a 996 on a fairly limited budget. I purchased a 10 year old 92,000 mile C4 Cab very much on the spur of the moment a few months back at what I considered to be a pretty reasonable price (but still enough to make the bank a/c look a bit lean . . .), in the knowledge that at some stage pretty soon, I'd need a couple of new back boxes. They aren't blowing yet, but the seams are looking pretty much on their last legs. As she is very much a sunny day special, my annual mileage only in the region of around 4,000, the thought of finding another £800 or so plus fittings, especially in view of the bank situation wasn't too attractive. So I looked around on the 'net for any options, and discovered Douglas Valley Breakers (visit their web site, view the cars, and cry), and Prestige Salvage, who are specialist Porsche dismantlers, and from whom I purchased a pair of what appear to be very low mileage boxes for £385 all inclusive. Their service was very efficient and helpful, and although I still need some new bolts for the clamps etc (back to the 'net) the saving has been considerable. By the way, the car's a gem, an incredible improvement over the '84 3.2 coupe I last had.

If I had known you were looking for these - you could have had mine much cheaper.

They had only done 14k miles when removed and are as new. I still have them too. [:)]

Is C4 coupe exhaust the same item as C4 cab?

If so I might be interested in the back boxes Peter.

Please message me directly.

Thanks,

Steve

There are two basic designs of silencer for the 996 - one for 3.4 engines and one for 3.6. They are the same physical size, but Porsche do not recommend putting the early exhaust on the later car. It is OK to put the later exhaust on the early car though. I don't think it would do any harm, but it will sound quieter if you put an early box on a later car.

Going back to the OP, you should have done a search on eBay. I bought a nearly-new pair of 3.6 silencers for my C2 for £100 including delivery. They often come up, as people replace them with PSEs (like Peter). I bet there are a few people on here who have a pair sitting in the garden shed.
