'Cheap' Turbo anyone?!

968 turbo rear spoiler (adjustable), front splitter, black leather (could be decent), nice colour ... slightly scabby sills which will need replacing.

I could be very tempted.

Oli.

...needs to be lower [;)]

very little info in the ad - could be a good buy, but I bet it needs at least 2k spending on those sills (and probably more)

My bet is that you could easily spend 4k on that car - I guess would break for more than 2k though

I bought my machine for £2000 nearly two years ago, salvage, and spent a lot
to put it right!

I didn't need to do any sill work - but at 136k, that car will need fuel lines,
brake lines, suspension, when was the timing done etc etc

If the sills are in that kind of condition, I'd be seriously wary as to the condition
of the rest of the car.

You'd be shocked how much a paint job can hide - my father's old Audi 100S Coupe
is falling to pieces and still looks ok from the outside!!

For a track car could be worth a punt - but never forget the golden rule of project management:

Think real hard and accurately estimate the time and money involved.
Now double that!

Just don't do it. I don't know a single person who hasn't spent serious amounts of money bringing a car back to a good level or doing a renovation job. When you can find a nice car for say 5 grand, IMHO a good 'project' car needs to cost less then a grand.

Although a "nice car"will also need serious £££ spending on it - being 20 years old. Mine was (and still is) a good one, but it has cost me plenty, even allowing for the extras I have spent on mods. The only ones that don't are the ones like simonp's - and sell for five figures.

Been down the "project" route cost me a fortune in the end [8|]
Buy the best you can, it would be ok for tracking though think about it as you would get a few quid for the interior and other bits and bobs,

When I first started looking it was at the bargain basement turbo's, even then I could see that nearly all of them needed thousands spent on them, I didn't see one under £6k I thought was worth buying.

I wish that were true...

Unfortunately I believe there are a fair number of very rough 944s tarted up to look good, but of poor substance (rotton chassis with filler and paint disgusing it, poor servicing regime, never mind the clocking that reputedly went on a few years ago).

Conversely, there are some excellent 944s at relatively low prices because the owners tend to understate them, or want to sell them there and then... that means within the average "book" price that most people will go and have a look at.
