Cheapest place for a battery

Hi

What's the cheapest place to get a battery from around the Leicester way?
GSF used to be cheap but not now.

Pref. after a Bosch or Varta for my 964.

Thanks

Rob

CostCo are very cheap and do Bosch, although, when I tried to get one for me 993 they did not actually have the particular one I wanted.

i 2nd halfrauds.. my mate has a halfords battery in his karmann ghia. their own brand batteries come with a 2yr guarantee so every spring (his car lives in the garage over the winter) he takes the battery (complete with receipt) to halfords, and tells them its knackered. They give him a new one with a new 2yr guarantee, and the cycle begins again!.. not that I condone such skullduggery or suggest anyone else follows his example of course [:D]

ps.. if you just want a cheap battery I can get 2nd hand big ones from work for £10-15, completely above board, but the dimensions might not be right and the terminals are the other way around (different sae spec; 679 instead of 678 or something)

German, Swedish & French (GSF), or Euro Car Parts.
A 62Amp Bosch Silver will costs you about £60 including vat.

I'm still after an 80Ah for a 3.6 996. Costco still haven't got one. Any ideas in the Derby area. The Halfords batteries i suspect are not 80Ah as they seem a little small, so not sure i want to go there and spend £100 on something that isn't quite right

Halfords do all diffrent size batteries. to suit everything from a 356 to a Cayenne.

but, if you prefer a branded battery at a budget price then ask Mike at Zentrum. (they have just moved to Calverton) he can get them for you at very good prices.

I got mine eventually from Coscto. It was a Bosch Silver. I have a MY2003 C2, so I went for a 12v 85Ah replacement. Cheaper than Halfords. £93 all in.

What you have to take note of is that the batteries quoted in the shop manuals are necessaroly the best fit/battery but one that generally fits the 911 range from 1973 onwards, so you could end up with a smaller rated battery than you actaully need although it will run the car, hence my decission. I just measured the battery compartment and found one of similar rating (In this case 5Ah higher than standard). The other thing to note is the cold start current. The standard Porsche batteries (Moll) tend to be a little low, but the Bosch silver has a very good cold start current and turn the engine over effortlessly

Hopethis helps R8
