Checking the oil level

Hi again,

getting use to the car and loving every minute but how do you check the oil level?
I know the car needs to be running but it fluctuates between empty and full.
So when is the best time to check the level, when the car is warm or cold?

 
Get the car warm (about 20 mins drive). Park on a level place. Let idle for 30 seconds. Then it's ready to check. Make sure you leave the engine running whilst you check it.

You can get a little more scientific if you want about when it's warm enough by watching the temp guage. You'll see it rise from cold as the car warms up. Then it will suddenly dip down a little indicating the oil thermostat has opened.
