Child seat help! 1986 3.2 Carrera Targa

GM2015

Hi all, I have just brought my first porsche a 1986 3.2 Carrera Targa so i am some what new to this. Could someone please advise me on what child seat would fit in the back, i have read the forums but most of the seats that you guys have mentioned seem to be out of date. Has anyone just fitted child seats in the back of a 3.2, help would be much appreciated. My daughter has just turned 2 years old.

Kind regards.

Hi GM

As I am sure you have seen in the forums already, the only one I have found to fit is the Klippan Futura (also rebadged as a mamas and papas sicuro). A good picture can be seen on pistonheads at http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=48&h=&t=224968.

Having found the seat (and they have not been made for seveal years - so secondhand (and we are advised never to buy SH) then you will need to fit 3 point seatbelt.
For my Cabriolet I had to go to QuickFit seatbelt services (advertise in PP), they charged what I consider an extortionate £80 plus post for a belt, and provided 3 poor quality photos as the installation instructions (website http://www.quickfitsbs.com/ has been under construction for over 2 years now)

A final note. I remember reading that the Futura was rated very poorly in a test by Which of child seats - providing poor lateral head support. Do an internet search for "klippan Futura test which" for some articles on the test.

Hi Anthony
Thanks for the advice, very helpful, i noticed the seatbelts from the picture of the klippan are in a different position than mine, my belts sit high and slighly forward on the raised section between the two seats, is this what needs changing?
regards
Gary

Hi Gary

You'll need to fit a 3 position seatbelt. This is what I got from QuickFit SBS.

I will try to find the picture they sent and scan it in, and take one myself of my installation.

I managed to fit it to existing bolts, and a hole for the top mount was already present.

GM,

You will also find that the Romer Prince, as sold by Mercedes and up until recently on the Peugot web site will also fit in the rear. This can be used with lap belts! You should be able to get one for about £80.

However, this seat only goes up to 18Kg, so you daughter will only be in it for a year or so, depending on size. My son has just turned 3, and is now borderline for this seat.

Above 18Kg, you can use one of the standard booster seats that should take them until they can use the seat belts on there own, can't put my finger on the name at the moment, but this WILL need 3 point belts. I think there is one that Halfords sell that will fit the back of an older 911.

When I say booster seat, I mean the kind that has a seat, and full back, with guides for the shoulder belt, rather than just a booster.

Of course if you want to splash out on a Porsche Prince, I believe the back comes off to leave a simple booster seat that can be used with a lap belt. I have also seen a Romer Prince booster, but I think this was designed for sitting on transmission tunnels.

At then end of the day though, with older children, a lap belt isn't good enough.

Hi Mark and Anthony,
Thanks for the feedback and time uploading the pics, very helpful. My car has got the 3 point belts already in, but seem a tad different to your anthony (i'll get a pick up to show you). However as much as i resented buying it, did purchase a Romer Prince that i have just picked up off ebay and it doesn't fit in the back, (a.) doesn't fit flush wobbles about all over the shop and (b) once under stress (ie brake hard, flips across one side of the diagonal belt (i didn't try this with my daughter in it) as the seat isn't attached to the car itself.

Are you sure you fitted it correctly?

The Romer prince is the same fittment as the Porsche Prince, I and have always found it quite safe.

When using a 3 point belt, put the sholder and lap belts together and feed them under the lip on the lap section of the seat, rather than the shoulder strap over the side. Once you plugged the seat belt in you can tighten it until the seat doesn't move.

I will pop out after breakfast and take some photos of mine in place with the 3 point belt so that you can see.

Mark.

Here is a piccy I already had of the seat in the rear, although with blue ted in it, rather than my little boy. Will do a pic of it in the front with 3 point later.
