Child Seat Legislation

This comes into force in a couple of weeks - was wondering if anyone could expand on the excerpt below from the Dept of Transport website FAQ's -

14. What about rear facing seats in the back of estate cars, or small seats with forward facing seats in sports cars? Some estate cars have rear facing seats in the luggage compartment for use by children, and some 2 + 2 sports cars or convertibles have small rear seats. Child seats/boosters to the required UN ECE Regulation 44.03 type approval must be used on these seats. However, it may be that such seats are certified to UN ECE 44.03 type approval standards which means that they are in effect type-approved child seats/booster seats themselves and therefore a separate child seat/booster would not be needed. If a seat complies with the type-approval standard, it will have an "E" label, with "44.03" or ".03" and the weight range of the child for which it is designed. You may need to check with the car handbook, or the vehicle manufacturer, whether the seat is so approved.
One of my (many) justifications for the rationallity of the 944 purchase was that as a second car we could still get the kids in (and go to Sainsburys if necessary ) Our youngest is 6, & fits the seat reasonably well I think, but would definitely be caught by the new rules

Is there any chance that the 944 rear seats will have that UN approval? - if not, are there any booster cushions that fit?

Thanks

Ed

Good Moring All,

I am seriously considering a 944 like the gentleman below as a second car that would hopefully still have enough room for my 2 little ones (2 and 8). I currently have a Megane Coupe (oh dear) and have the corrct seats fopr the new legislation but wondered how people got on with this? I went to the classic show at Knebworth hoping to get a look inside soem 944's and check for space but alas only 1 911 turned up. I went to view a 94 Lux yesterday but the dealer had gone to lunch. I have read teh very useful buyers guides from earlier posts (big thanks to people who posted those) and the only thing stoppping me from buying one now is weather I can fit the kids in with the new rules.

I know this was all a lttile long winded but can anyone share there experiences. I am not the tallest guy in the world so I would expect not to have the seat really far back.

Kind Regards

Gary

Many thanks.

I am in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. If there is anyone in my area of the world who would be kind enough to let me have a quick look around I would be extrmemly grateful.

Kind Regards

Gary

The children will certainly fit in with room to spare (my own children are 13 and 16 and we only have 944s in our family - the van dont count [;)]). It's this type approval that will be the sticking point and I don't think the 944 will have it so you will have to buy the relavent booster seat.

I'm in Northampton if you can't find a car closer to peer into [:D]
