Is there a lot of difference in the shape of the rear seats within the 944 range?
No they are all the same.
It may be worth trying Chris in the Exeter OPC parts dept. There was a Porsche branded child seat for the rear of the 944 and I seem to recall some discussion from many moons ago that it is in fact a Britax Ranger (or it might have been Prinz) seat with a Porsche cover on it.
There is a seat out there that will fit, sorry I can't be more help, we need to save your S2 []

I'll give Porscheshop a call on Tuesday.
I've been away the last couple of days but got into Halfords superstore (has a lot more options) and found a couple of seats will fit, however even with the front seat pushed all the way to the forward there's no leg room for my (not so) little one, so I need to get into porsche shop and try theirs but I ran out of time on Friday, with regard to the e-bay chairs, after some thought and "advice" (from the wife) i have to buy new, FYI the Comfort plus in Halfords fits like a glove and it was the recomened but Sophie had no leg room. Also can anyone confirm this, the specialist said that I can no long have the car seat in the forward facing position in the front it has to be rear facing or in the back, stikes me as odd if it fits better in the front, but you never know,
thanks
M
The law requires all children travelling in cars to use the correct child restraint until they are either 135 cm in height or the age of 12 (which ever they reach first) . After this they must use an adult seat belt. There are very few exceptions which are set out below.
It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that children under the age of 14 years are restrained correctly in accordance with the law.
Children up to 3 years old
The child MUST use the correct child restraint.
It is illegal to carry a child in a rear-facing child seat in the front, which is protected by an active frontal airbag.
In the Rear Seat
The child MUST use the correct child restraint.
In a licensed taxi or licensed hire car, if a child restraint is not available then the child may travel unrestrained in the rear. This is the only exception for children under 3, and has been introduced for practical rather than safety reasons. You should always think about ways to make sure that a child seat is available.
It is the driver's legal responsibility to ensure that the child is correctly restrained.
Children aged 3 and above, until they reach EITHER their 12th birthday OR 135cm in height
The child MUST use the correct child restraint.
In the Rear Seat
The child MUST use the correct restraint, where seat belts are fitted.
There are three exceptions where there is not a child seat available. In each case the child MUST use the adult belt instead. They are -
1) in a licensed taxi or private hire vehicle;
2) if the child is travelling on a short distance for reason of unexpected necessity;
3) if there are two occupied child restraints in the rear which prevent the fitment of a third.
In addition, a child 3 and over may travel unrestrained in the rear seat of a vehicle if seat belts are not available.
It is the driver's legal responsibility to ensure that the child is correctly restrained.

If you read back through this thread you'll see that the posters are hoping for advice on what specific seat to buy for a 944 coupe & cab rather than just whether one is needed or not.
Or maybe you are hinting we should all stick private hire stickers on the doors & paint the bonnet a contrasting colour as a way to 'beat the system'?

I find it rather annoying that there will never be any official check to see if the rear seats are better for a 10 year old with or without a booster seat. If the seatbelt passes in the right place without a booster do you really need one and is it in fact less safe to have one? But then its not like our current government to bring in a needless improperly thought out law [] (or 300)
Tony
I do too, as far as I'm concerned my rear seats are kiddie seats. Fingers crossed by the time I need to worry about it this law will have settled down to something more sensible, mine's still in a rear facing seat & that won't fit in the back with us both in the front anyway (we're a lanky family[]).

There was also a question about forward facing seats in the front.
