CHILD SEAT/REAR SEAT BELTS

Does anyone know of a child seat that only needs a lap belt, or can fit into the back of a standard 911 rear seat (I actually have an SC, but understand that it is the same as a 3.2)? I contacted a firm in the back of 911 & Porsche World and was quoted in excess of £200 just for the fitting of a 3 point belt, a tad harsh. If a 3 point belt is the only solution, does anyone know of a cheaper option?

Short of selling my soon to be born, any suggestions?

Cheers for this - I'd just had Quickfit recommended in the SC forum. If they are quoting that price for fitting, I may have to take the plunge and have a go myself - what bits did you need from the OPC to fit you belts? Where did you fit the reel, or is it not an inertia belt? Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

The other alternative of course is to buy the Porsche Prince child seat. (These are often advertised in PP and 911PW.)
I have an 87 carrera with lap belts for which these were designed. I believe, although I may be mistaken that then new child seat is also called Prince - so beware!

Hi there binster
It twas I that helped J50 fit his rear belts. First you need to check you have a third mounting points on the rear shelf, I am pretty sure you will. This panel is joined to the upright below it and is removed by taking out the four phillips screws on the upright panel and then lifting it UP and out carefully as the speaker wires are still connected and there is a retaining clip, on the back of the upright, that needs to be cleared. I guess on your year of car that there will not be enough of a recess to neatly house an interia reel, so I would go for a fixed three point belt. The new belt will simply bolt into the three holes. I got my belts from quickfit, make sure you ask for a 'childrens' length belt, or else it will be difficult to make it fit tightly. The attached photo shows where you need to cut the holes to pass the belt through the rear shelf. I used a 993 cover plate a few years ago, J50 used a different one as mine was no longer available, it should only cost a few pounds. Hope that helps.

Sounds about right. I'll try and dig out the receipt with the parts numbers on for the plastic bit that surrounds the hole. As said by my mechanic above, there are two types of these plates, one for a 993, and one for pre-89. There is not much difference between them, apart from the one for 993 costs about £25 each and the older one costs £1.50... for a similar piece of cheap plastic!
