Child Seat

Sorry to return to this topic again. I have yet to find a seat which fits properly in the back of my 993.

I saw some people recommended the Maxi Cosi XP but I asked Mothercare to try and fit this at the weekend but it was not quite good enough. The other option was the Mamas and Papas Pro-tec and I will try this next, however I have seen some old Porsche seats for sale on Ebay - Zoom or Porsche Prince. These are quite expensive but I'm beginning to think it may be worth it if I finally get something which fits.

It's for a 4 year old by the way.

It's so frustrating to be unable to take both my partner and child out in the car and means I only drive the car once a week at the most which is torture!

M&P Pro Tec is a group 1 seat (9kg - 18kg, 9mths - 4 yrs), so probably not suitable for your 4yr old Martin (or at least only a very short term solution).

Im still trying to source one myself, i have seen on ebay one called sicuro that sometimes comes up but reviews dont rate it also they stopped making it some time ago and seats do have a validity date as the polystyriene eventually weakens. Also i wouldnt buy second hand. Let me know if you have any joy as i say im in the market to and also dont favour the prince seat i think its awfull and prob not comfortable at that weight. My daughter is about 9kg to.

Can someone please provide the definitive answer on whether any currently manufactured child seat suitable for 9kgs upwards fits safely in the rear of a 993.

I am, of course, talking of a seat that uses a conventional hanress rather than the foam squab favoured by Porsche at the moment.

Here's hopeful.

Regards
Dave

I'm 99% sure no new ones will fit in the back of a 993. I have a pair of M&P Sicuro seats for my 2 kids which fit well, but require a special static seat belt (replaces the inertia reel). The only other seat which gets close to fitting well is M&P Pro-tec, although it's alot larger in size which means some overhang of the seat base relative to the rear seat cushion, and less legroom for the child once sat in it.

I can say with absolute confidence that the M&P ProTech (still sold by M&P) works as a forward facing 9kg+ child seat. I have 1 year old twins and these ProTech seats now stay permanently in the back of my 993 in case of nursey pick up/drop off (I drive it daily for work). My rear belts were lengthened and the buckles changed by Quickfit SBS in Stanmore and the seats are rock solid ie. you can move the car by heaving on the child seat without the seat itself moving. The base of the child seat is just small enough to sit snuggly onto the rear car seats (the buckle needs to be changed to avoid 'buckle crunch').

I'm not that tall so I don't need to change my driver's seat position (the legs of the little chap sitting behind me aren't squashed just yet!), but I would say that it's unlikely you would get to use the recline feature unless used behind the passenger seat, with that pushed right forward.

Hi Stewart what modelis yours i see they do three models of the protec
Chequers, technoir and famigliar, this may only be colour option.

Stewart, do you live/work around Reading? I regularly see a dark blue 993 in Reading with 2 Pro-Tec's permanently fitted in the back!

Like I said, the Pro-tec does fit, it's just that it's a big seat so legroom is less - you'll see what I'm saying as your twins get bigger! My 2.5year old daughter kicks the seat backs while sitting in the M&P Sicuro, and this sits alot further back in the back than the Pro-tec!

Any of those are fine - it's just a different fabric design.

I don't know the specific model of my ProTech - as noted above, I think its just a fabric/colour difference. I went for the black with dark grey/black check to match my black leather - you have to keep up some standards! I'll try to get a couple of photos done tonight.

....and, yes, ACE571, I work in Reading, so quite possibly my Ocean Blue C4 you've seen with the seats in place (reg: GO R1X).

Thought it might be you - not often you see 2 Pro-tec's in a 993! Usually see you on Kings Road. Remember the plate as well. I have a Ocean blue C2S but more often than not I'm in a black Merc E Class - so if a stranger in one waves at you it's me [:D]

Nice car BTW [;)]
