Child Seats in the 997

Which is the best Porsche Child Seat to get (new borns) and can they be fitted in the back seats of the 997?

Get a rear facing isofix seat. can't be fitted in the rear (only forward facing seats can be fitted - generally older than 9months I think) so you will also need the isofix bars and air-bag deactivation kit fitted to the front passenger seat.
Porsche do their own isofix kit which is pricey - I've been very happy using a britax isofix kit and seat.

rear facing seats to fit in the back seats of a 997. the depth of the seat will dictate how far forward your front passenger seat needs to go. in mine, i have quite a deep seat (from birth to 9 months) and my wife comfortably sits in the front seat. she's about 5'3".

if you wish, you can buy a porsche baby seat which comes with an airbag deactivitation frame which is meant to go in the front passenger seat.

Post 9mths, you can buy a forward facing seat that again sits comfortably in the back. I have a Recaro Young Sport.

No issues with it at all.

With the baby seat in the back, you can still put one rear seat down, and fit luggage and push chair on the extended rear parcel shelf.

Sports car, or family car......

Dev,

My wife is also 5'3" so it sounds like this might work.

Over the weekend, I've inherited both an Isofix "newborn" seat (with brackets / frame) and another seat for 9 months onwwards with a booster cushion (my MD had a 996 turbo but never used them)

Only 9 weeks to go, so will have to sort out the airbag de-activation soon!

Cheers

Dave

Dev,

Is this seat still available ? I have a 4.5 yr old daughter and a 3 day old son, both of whom I would like to ferry around in the 997.

the recaro seat is def available. I'm trying to remember where i got it from. i bought it of the net froma a"baby" site. couldhave been babyworld.com or soemthing. google it and I'm sure you'll find some suppliers.

as far as the porsche baby seat, i'm pretty sure that is still available from teh porsche website. comes with deactivation system for the passenget airbag if you have it in the front.

Dev,

I have found the seat in question at one of my wifes favourite sites ( Kiddycare.com ).

Very tempted to buy one of these particularlary as you say it fits without any problems in the narrow rear 911 seats. Everything else I have tried just wont go in properly.

Yves

I'm interested in an update on this - did the Recaro Young Sport fit the back of the 997? I'm keen to buy a decent car seat, for my nephew - he's 18 months right now.

I prefer the look of the Maxi Cosi Tubi or the Maxi Cosi Priori Fix. The reason being that I don't really want a huge baby seat in the car all the time.

Thanks,
Sunil
PS I found these at www.kiddycare.co.uk but also at www.kiddicare.com which is cheaper.

Edited to add - I can't believe how many sites there are for this stuff! www.twoleftfeet.co.uk is cheaper still.

Sunil,

I haven't looked into this any further at the mo.

There must be something non Porsche out there that fits with 'no issues', I will keep looking.

Regards

Yves

Sunil,

I've chickened out and bought the Porsche ( rear, non isofix, 3.5 - 12 yrs ) seat in the end.

Cost around £150 after negotiation with a sympathetic OPC.

Yves

Yves,

That sounds like a great price but I'm not sure which seat that is. My nephew is 18 months so I'm only looking for something that will take him now and for the next 2-3 years.

I will contact my OPC next week and check it all out again - I need to test drive the 997 TT anyway! [:D]

Someone, I can't remember from which board, has purchased a Britax Evolva 123 and this apparently fits the back seat. I'm going to look into this as well. Will keep you updated.

Thanks for the info Yves.

Best wishes,
Sunil
PS I tried the Maxi seats and none of them fit.

Sunil,

The one I have bought is the Porsche G2+G3 which is for 3.5 - 12 yr olds ( our daughter is 4 & 3/4) hence the good price.

For younger infant seats we still have to look elsewhere for a good price I think.

Dev, can you advise on the make and model of rear facing seat to fit the back seats of a 997? I've manged to get the Maxi Cosi CabrioFix in the back, but does anyone know of a better product? Thanks in advance.
