Chip

No!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why say No?

I fitted a Steve Wong chip to make my car run smoother, which it did. I have sacrificed some fuel economy but the car is also a little quicker and it is a sports car after all.

I have had a SW chip before, great value for money upgrade, it does make big difference.

I subsequently had a Wayne Schofield live Dyno remap which is on another level in optimizing performance.

I would imagine some chips are not very good value but having chipped 2 carrera 3.2,s with S/W chips i can say they definitely do i no longer have those 2 beauties but i do have a 944s2 as in picture that has a promax chip and cat bypass and that also makes quite a difference

I fitted an SW chip to my previous 3.2 and it made a noticeable difference. It was a lot smoother through the Rev range. Dunno about fuel consumption but seemed fine. Certainly a good upgrade In my opinion.

I to fitted a SW chip (about a year ago) and, as said previously, I have found a noticeable improvement in performance, especially at the higher revs. It also seems much smoother through the rev range.

I'm sure this is not psychological but a real effect. --- Perhaps some of you guys might have done a before and after dyno test which could confirm the enhancement.

Haven't got a clue about any changes to fuel consumption (probably increases it due to the desire to use the improved performance!!).

The Targa i chipped was dyno tested by Bob Watson when he was around my area showed enough improvement to warrant chipping but that car was also fitted with a hayward and scott exhaust awesome sound keep your eyes open for secondhand chips for stock engine set ups

Mine was on a stock engine. Also make sure it is for 97/98 octane rating as he also I understand does them for lower octane ratings.
