Chipping an S2

Joss Walker

I would love to hear from anyone who has chipped an S2, especially if you think that it has been worthwhile.

In my youth I chipped a Japanese turbo engine and it improved the mid range significantly, but I am sceptical of the effect this would obtain on a normally aspirated engine.

As ever, thanks for your responses,

Joss

I had the Promax chip in mine a few years back and couldn't fault it. Don't expect huge performance gains (in terms of peak HP) but it makes the car nicer to drive especially at part throttle. Car definately felt quicker too. Well worth the money IMO.

Had to write this twice due to pesky cat walking on the keyboard. Grrr! Anyone want a tortoiseshell? (that is quite possibly possessed).

Everyone I know who has chipped their S2 has been very pleased with the result. Not a huge power gain but a much smoother power curve is the result and quite a noticeable difference on the road.

General consensus is that a chip such as the Promax one makes a noticeable improvement in driveability rather than power gain. I am guessing that mine has a chip, as there's only the barest of change in the power through the entire rev range, no 16-valve peak at higher revs. Works well with a de-cat pipe as well.

I would agree chipped my S2 a few months ago with a Promax unit bought secondhand from someone on TIPEC (unused) and I have found the car drives much more smoothly with a definite improvment in response above 3000rpm, no diverse effects on fuel economy so not bad for ÂŁ50.

Peter,

I have the same problem. In fact, work was rather rudely interrupted yesterday morning by a chronically overweight and very hairy black cat insisting on sitting directly in front of my computer monitor and washing her bottom. Particularly loudly. Quite why we give her house room I'm not quite sure. In fact, so revolting is she that I could seriously consider a straight swap for a possessed tortoiseshell.

Your question has been answered many times already.)

I'll swap both cats for a manic 6 month old Cockapoo puppy that sat and ate half a tub of Raisins yesterday morning and had to have his second stomach pump in 2 weeks (the first was for devouring a bowl of chocolates)

I have learnt that cats won't eat anything, even if it is good for them, whereas a dog will eat anything, especially if of high toxicity and will cause renal failure.....

What's a cockapoo puppy? (A cocker spaniel that poos a lot, perhaps?)

If you have bowls of chocolates lying around your house then can I come and live there please?

(Not all cats are fussy eaters. See my comment above about our chronically overweight mog. Last time she went to the vet we were accused of having an obese cat. We haven't been back since ... )

I concur My first S2 wasn't chipped and this one is and its definitly more responsive and smoother in delivery. The power seems to start at 1000rpm and just never stop to past 6000rpm Amazing delivery and performance. I haven't noticed much difference in economy to be honest but for that power I'd trade a few miles per gallon.

Oli I have one of those cats on my table now. Boo (aka Lardarse) weighs almost half as much as our Doberman and no-one (including my ex-vet nurse wife) dare go anywhere near her when she is eating....which to be honest is most of the time.
She has bisquits upstairs and down for continual grazing in case she feels peckish. This is Boo unable to wait a few minutes for her prawns to defrost .
Luckily she is ambidextrous [:D]

Peanut,

Boo gets prawns? Crumbs. Lady Millicent the third gets economy cat food. If she ate less of it, we may condescend to buy something a bit posh-er. Whiskas, or the like.

Here she is snoozing off a recent feed. Yes, in the neighbours planter boxes ...

thats some ass [:D] She's very pretty and also very urrrmm ...hairy lol . .I see you went for the hairy version in matt black which doesn't show on clothing.
We were tricked in taking 2x cats with white fur which is why my clothes always look as though I have slept in a cat bed lol

ps. Boo only gets cheap frozen cocktail prawns on special occasions.

hiya all, oli, shes a big one, peanut, try them on eams dry food , throw my tuppence in and say the two burmese we have act more like dogs then any dog i have ever owned, and as mad as hatters....regards jason p

A Cockapoo is half Cocker Spaniel and half Poodle, here is Kato strapped in the back of the 944:

What an enormously attractive looking dog! (And that's from someone who is not normally a fan of dogs ... ) With a face like that I suspect I could forgive half-a-dozen stomach-pumping sessions.

Jason - thanks. Burmese really are dogs tho', aren't they? Just in the wrong bag, so to speak. And as for eams (iams?) ... is that more expensive or MUCH more expensive than the frozen prawns that Nick's Boo gets? It's one or the other ... []

Thanks Oli, when we travel in the Porker we strap him in behind me, he then lies with his head and front paws on the back of the armrest, or sits up and watches out of the windscreen, he much prefers it to his booster seat in the middle of the back seat of the 730!

We tried that with our Doberman but she couldn't see to navigate[:D]
