Hi Folks,
Have any of you used the company 'Chips Away' ? I have a couple of bad ones! on the side of the front right wing, which bug me. I have no experience with this kind of repair and would value some advice from someone who has used them in the past. I have used a guy called Gwyn in the past (previously worked for Dent Master), based near Denbigh North Wales, to remove some dents (not on my 964) using the paintless dent removal system. I would highly recommend him, unfortunately he doesn't do stone chips!

Hi,
I have used Chips away on my current 964 targa, also in silver. The guy's here at Wellingborugh Northants did a supberb job of the small bubble of rust (from a stone chip) around the passenger side head light.

However, as I understand it these business are run on franchise basis so the quality can vary from area to area.

I worked in the motor trade for some years and have quite a bit of experience of Chips Away and similar companies. The main probelm is, as the previous poster said, most are a franchise so there is no guarantee of quality.
It seems that two methods are used: one is simply to mix the correct paint and touch in the chip with a brush; you can probably do this yourself with the aid of the right paint mixed from Halfords - and save yourself a fortune.
The second method is a proper spray repair and some of these guys are amazing at sucessfully doing this - highly localised and often near invisible. Trickier on a metallic paint though and can be dependent on weather conditions - some of these repairs get done on the driveway outside.
You could approach your local decent size car dealer and ask who they use - they will probably use the services of one of these companies many times each wek and should be able to provide a decent recommendation.

Steve Williams who has the Chips Away franchise in Wrexham did an excellent job for me on a damaged Alloy wheel

Thanks Mike, Wrexham's only 1/2 hour away. Just looked in yellow pages for his number. Thanks

Paul Smith who posts as Diver944 on here is a Chips-Away franchise holder in Northampton.
