Chips away

On my return from the Classic found some nasty chips on curve on my rear wheel (just above the protective strip) probably caused by some major gravel across several corners we drove through in the lanes south of Le Mans

So has anyone used chips away or can recommend similar to fix this blemish?

Cheers

Intresting i was at Classic Le mans in my 996 and seem to have picked up a few stone chips, i have also wondered about using chips away, but have some mixed reports.

I used chips away for an Impreza. The car was black with a gold metalic fleck, very difficult job to match as the gold metalic pattern glowed out of the paint in sunlight and needed to be consistent.

The scratch was about 18" long down the door and front wing down to the metal (kids bike handlebars !).

Chips away operative did it on the drive, and the results were perfect, not just good, but actually perfect. Could not see any evidence of the scratch.

As its a franchise operation, I imagine it very much depends on the person you get. The one I used covers the Cumbria area.

Chips Away is a franchise operation, so you need to find someone with experience of your local operative - the guy in the Oxford area was very good a year ago.

I used an ex Chips Away guy who came highly recommended and now has his own business. Frankly I could have done the job as well with a rattle can!! The repair is very good (deep scratches on N/S/F arch) but the finish is very poor and not worth a fraction of the £90 I parted with. He spent a fair amount of time on the job but I would have had less "˜orange peel' if I'd done it myself. There was overspray on the bonnet and all over the wing as well so I had to clay the front end of the car.

Bottom line is make sure your local guy is REALLY good and inspect the work carried out
