I have a 2003 2.7 Boxster Eurochips have a chip for the car giving257bhp and 210ftlbs of torque. Is this realistic?Has anyone else used it and does it give much worse fuel consumption?I have ben led to believe that a chip gain is usually only about 8bhp.

Shame no one has annswered this as it would have been interesting reading. Have you made any decisions yet? I did read about someone chipping a boxter here

Is this realistic?

Doesn't look believable to me[&:]

The chip will do little without exhaust and intake mods. Porsche might be crippling the Boxster performance in favour of the 996, but that amount of gain for a reprogrammed ECU seems BS to me.
If there was that much gain to be had with no downside - we would all be running around with it fitted!

That kind of jump in power from chipping only usually comes on forced induction cars (turbo ir supercharged)

Seems a bit optimistic, if that kind of jump was avalaible then the change in engine from 2.5 to 2.7 back when ever was not really needed.

I just dont like the idea of chipping, takes the engine a little closer to the edge of reliability.

I agree with Mark on this one, they often gain the headline BHP increase by raising the rev limiter, which is obviously not good for engine wear !
If your car is 2003, surely this will invalidate the warranty, OPC's are pretty cute ! Also could affect your re-sale, I wouldn't want to buy a car thatbhad been chipped.

Best solution wait until you are ready to upgrade, then treat yourself to an "S", yes I know it will cost you more than a chip, but you get a lot more (uprated chassis, brakes & more goodies, as well as more grunt) & will get a lot of the extra back come re-sale.
