Chollerford Bridge

I know you guys like the Military Road as I do always using it to go to our daughter's home in Whalton-well at the moment the bridge at Chollerford is closed for 4 weeks-how do I know -well just back from a weekend of Grandparenting duties in Whalton .

Had to take the grey 924S as my BMW air suspension pump has gone sick ,again-got to the bridge with plenty of time to get to RGS to pick up our eldest Grandson to find it shut( admit there was a yellow diversion sign about 2miles back) but no other advance warning at all nearer Carlisle.

So stupidly followed the Diversion signs as we were now in a rush all the *****y way via Otterburn back down the A68 to A69 then Newcastle & got there with 5 minutes to spare.

The 924S didn't miss a beat-probably not been driven like it for years (wife's daily car) & has returned nearly 32mpg over the weekend of 450 miles including a further trip into Newcastle to the University swimming baths on Saturday am then a trip via Ponteland home which during which sod's law dictated a diversion round through Kendal & Kirkby Londsdale as the M6 was closed by an accident between J36 & J 35.

Not bad for a 32 yr old cruising in the late 70's! when possible

Oh dear, sounds like you've had a runaround, good excuse to give the 924 a run, though. I'd read about it in the local rag. Our run yesterday took us up the coast, thankfully. Thanks for the heads up.

Too late for you, but if you head west from Chollerford, turn left at Walwick for Fourstones you can then join the A69 just where it becomes dual carriageway west of Hexham. About a 5-6 mile diversion that the council won't advertise as the roads aren't suitable for large vehicles.

Give us a shout next time you're in the area & we could sort a run out (although we do have a history of encountering road closures on our travels!)

Thanks Deb-unfortunately we never get any free time for anything when up in Whalton -even less synchronisation with any of R3's activities-our visits are entirely dependant on Emma & Matt's work patterns

Both the boys are mad on cars & I am hoping that sometime we might get to your annual event -we'll have to see.

Thanks for the diversion details-completely messes my route through Colwell on to Belsay & then Whalton unless we have to pick up from RGS

Incidentally ,can recommend the Catch -the new fish restaurant on the Ponteland /Belsay route.
