Choosing a 993 targa

I dropped by JZ Machtech this morning to book a service and MOT for my SC. By fortunate coincidence the 3.2 register were enjoying Jonas' hospitality. Thanks guys - I appreciated the food and drinks - my SC was parked in a corner [:)]

Chatting with Jonas I mentioned that I was planning on getting a 993 next year and was quite taken with the C2S but his recommendation was to stick with a coupe or targa. I' d never really considered the targa as I' d heard it was more trouble than it was worth. He was quite adamant that the later targas were really good cars and glass roof was no problem. Given that it was a blue sky day and there were some very clean and polished cars there - the possibility of the targa suddenly seemed quite attractive.

What do people think of this version and what' s the going price for a varioram one ? Seems to be in the low 30' s from the web but I wonder what the market price for private sales is. Also - has anyone seen a midnight blue targa. I love that colour on a 993 but have never seen it on a targa.

Richard,

Why were you advised against the C2S? Purely from an aesthetic viewpoint (not sure about the rigidity of the targa bodyshell), from some angles the targa loses the coupe' s gorgeous lines whereas in the C2S they are accentuated - making it (IMO) the best looking 993 out there.

But then I would say that wouldn't I [:D]

Weight , size and cost of brakes/suspension which Jonas reckons take more of hammering on the heavier car. Still pondering but his advice has been pretty good so far. In the end there' s a big chunk of personal preference there. I' ve always loved the look of the S but everytime I get in my slim hipped SC (or when I park next to a 996 to annoy them :) ) I wonder about it' s width.

Having followed a 996 turbo recently in my SC I was amazed at just how big that was. Lard ass or what.

Its my wife with a coat over her head!

She' s pregnant and does' nt feel very photogenic at the moment...

Its a vario-ram 285BHP engine although with an upgraded airbox/filter, 100cell sport catalysts, a free-flow sports exhaust and a matched engine management upgrade - all fitted/tested by an OPC. I' ve not had it tested myself but will probably do so quite soon to see how she' s running.

IMO the power improvement is very noticable and it sounds fantastic - my wife feels its a bit loud for her... although thats not necessarily a bad thing [;)]
