Hi all
Looking to a have a Christmas get together (without cars) on Sat 8th December In York.
Spoke to a few club members at the Gmund meet and most seemed keen enough for me to organise something. The aim is to have a chilled day chewing the rubber about this past years events over a beer or two.
Why York...? Well its not a bad place for a day out, transport links are good from most places within our region. This hopefully will pull in some of the members from the southern part of the region who normally need a car to attend events. The Christmas markets are in full swing and I have been reliably informed that Thors 's Tipi will be returning to the City this year.
Trains from Newcastle run approximately every 15 minutes to York and the same from Durham. Cost of a day return from Newcastle for two is approximately £50 that is leaving around midday and returning at 19 - 20.00 hrs
Middlesbrough to York trains are approximately every 20 mins. A day return is around about £36. The same timings apply. Those prices are as of now booking through www.thetrainline.com
Plan would be to meet in the Centre of York for say 1-2pm at Pub called Harkers on St Helens Square, it is quite large and a good meeting pub. It is a 10 minute walk from the train station. Directions can be provided if required. From there I thought lets just see where the day takes us. Plenty of Bars and Restaurants around the city centre for us to take in.
On the subject of restaurants I'm am not planning to book anywhere, although open to suggestions depending on numbers. Maybe a pizza or something around 17.00 hrs. I can start to ring around if enough interest is shown. However please remember the time of year most place will be extremely busy so we would have to be quick in booking somewhere.
The day is about having a good chinwag over a drink or three without the worry of having to jump in the car and drive home. Timing are there as a rough guide only. I am open to suggestions on the days activities. Please leave a comment if you plan to attend so I have an idea of numbers. This will also dictate the food situation if required.
Regards
Andy
P.S. Christmas Jumpers and partners are most welcome.
