Chuffing Noise!

Hi All,

This is strange so please bare with me. I have noticed when cold that the love of my life has a chuffing noise coming from the engine somewhere around the middle rear[]. The noise is similar to metal to metal slightly rubbing together or if the belts were guarded similar to a belt gently rubbing on a guard. The noise is loudest at idle and cold but once warm virtually disappears it does however increase in speed when the throttle is applied (cold). The noise can be heard inside as well as out and is not a bearing scream and not mega loud just annoying. I have checked what I can but unable to find anything car drives and runs fine. Probably would have noticed it sooner had I turned down the stereo[;)]

Any Ideas

Mine does the same on first start up in very cold weather. I assumed that it was due to moist or very cold belts. I would be intrigued to know if it is anything else.

I get it to! Went in to local guy to ask him what it was and he came out with a can of WD40 and sprayed the belts.

Went instantly!

Comes back as the belts dry so I just spray em and it goes.

Try it and let me know if its the same

agree with johno, time to go a bit crazy with the WD40... usually works in getting rid of mysterious noises !
