Chugging

Hi , I've had my S2 for nearly 2 months now and i have an issue thats eating away at me , when stationary and ticking over at just under 1k revs my steering wheel vibrates not a lot but noticable,The previous owner had new belts, cams, rollers etc so i dont think it would be them. it kind of feels that my engine chuggs if you know what i mean. it seams to smooth out if i increase the revs. I have a warrentee and had it in a few weeks ago for vibration problems and after gforce took a look at it and recomended new ARBs tracking, balancing they also said that the cabs do tend to suffer from schuttle shake and 17inch cups dont help , Roly at Eporsch had the work done under warrentee without quible. someone on one of the forums posted something about balance shafts ? ive also read Engine mounts ? if it is balance shafts is it still ok to drive the car I dont want to call Roly again unless i can pin point my problem if you know what i mean . ...sorry to ramble on.

Engine mounts are the first thing to get checked. The vibration is most noticeable at idle

any idea who near Southampton/Portsmouth could have a look to confirm then i can get in touch with the garage i brought it from

I've never experienced it but a failing engine mount is supposed to give a vibration at idle up to 1200rpm. Misaligned balance belts are supposed to give a vibration around 3000rpm

Belt jump/snap slight harmonic vibration under load but not at idle.

Belt installed with lower shaft 180 degrees out of sync equals slight vibe between 3-4000 rpm, over 4000 very fecking horrible vibration (and you won't do it again until the shaft is reorientated). Over 5000rpm.... well you would have to be the meanest SOB....
